I need bullet control!

  •  So, yeah, I was going to go easy on the bullets but since I am going to have to adjust to a whole different amount of free time based on my new schedule, I may have to keep bullet-ting for a bit.
  • But, first things first! Congratulations to [livejournal.com profile] soniag whose first novel, The Revenant came out TODAY! Unfortunately, I am still waiting on my copy to arrive (even though it was SUPPOSED to arrive today. Grrrr).
  • I had a great time this past weekend with my friend C who I met up with in Louisville, KY to attend a Christian women's conference. We used to work together before she moved "up north". I didn't matter that we hadn't seen one another in a year, we babbled on and on the entire weekend. We always had such great times working in the ER together (and have such great stories to rehash!).
  • But, I do so love it when real life and fandom collide (because it so rarely ever does). At one point, I was boasting a bit about my out of character spontaneity by going to Boston to watch a movie. Of course, this being real life, and therefore somewhat separate, I didn't go into any details and resisted the urge to wax poetic about Colin Morgan's cheekbones acting, though of course I was thinking it. Then, later, as we are comparing Netflix instant streaming habits, she asked me if I had "ever watched this show called Merlin"
*blink*
(cue hallelujah chorus)

  • Don't you just love it when that sort of thing happens!?! It gets better. It seems that she, too, is somewhat enamored of CM. But really, who can blame her? The adorableness is, quite frankly, overwhelming. See exhibit A

  • Anyway, it was quite the fun time comparing "what to watch" notes and, now, it seems that I have a "Texting Tudors" watch with C in addition to the Farscape Friday chat that is already ongoing.
  •  If I am going to watch this much TV, I will need to learn new free time management strategies now that I am working the same schedule as the rest of the world.
  • Speaking of work, even though I am still in paperwork mode, I am getting some good vibes thus far and think I am going to like it. I had a similar "Yay, kindred spirits!" moment when myself and two other NP's got to talking about Anne of Green Gables.
  • We'll see. For the next few weeks, I get to travel to several places and work with different preceptors as part of my orientation. It's a good thing I *finally* bought a GPS device. The only question is is why I didn't make that sort of purchase years ago. So far, I LOVE it. Of course, it hasn't yet instructed me to turn left into a lake or some similar nonsense.

GPS is really helpful most of the time.

LOL on C loving Colin, too. :D Gotta love those coincidences.

Well, it sure helps you get back on track should you miss your exit. Mapquest doesn't do that! Still, I am sure there will be glitches.

Have a wonderful time on your upcoming trip!!!

I found out not too long ago that one of my bffs from high school is a big fan of Colin! It's a little frightening and yet the BEST knowing you can squee with rl friends, isn't it?

I'm glad the new job is going well!

[identity profile] gateslacker.livejournal.com 2011-06-15 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)

Yes, it happens so rarely that I am always excited.

I hope the job continues to go well and that my first impression is a lasting one!

Personally I like the bullet format. Maybe I should give it a try.

I am glad to hear the new job is going great.

There have been a couple of sad stories in the news lately regarding GPS use. Be carefull, I don't want to see on the news.

That is cool about your friend liking Merlin. : )

So what it the chat schedule for this weekend? I haven't watched anymore Farscape.

[identity profile] gateslacker.livejournal.com 2011-06-15 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)

Ack, I haven't heard anything. Granted, I rarely watch the news. Yes, it is always exciting to discover a fellow fan even if she isn't likely to become involved in fandom in the way that we are.

As for Farscape, I think we are supposed to chat Saturday. I'll need to find some time to watch. Maybe Friday.

what time on Sat & which eps are we to watch? I could rewatch the first 2 season two eps again or have we decided to move on to the next eps.

I still have to watch Dr. Who.

[identity profile] gateslacker.livejournal.com 2011-06-17 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know, really. 7pm our time, maybe. I would love to discuss the first two of season 2, though I still need to watch the second. I might rewatch/do the commentary for the first.

I did watch doctor who and really want to discuss that!

So much to watch. So little time!

[identity profile] rosiewook.livejournal.com 2011-06-15 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Hooray for kindred spirits!

And just what ARE you going to do with all this free time?!

[identity profile] gateslacker.livejournal.com 2011-06-15 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)

LOL, I need pointers on how to handle this 5-day a week thing. There is a reason nurses typically prefer 12 hour shifts even if those hours get longer by the year. The actual weekly work hours are about the same but it feels like I'll have no days off now.

But, yeah. I need to remind myself about no weekends or holidays. That is a plus!

[identity profile] soniag.livejournal.com 2011-06-15 06:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks for shout out!

And how COOL to secretly be on the same wavelength about things. YAY!

What's your status for Dragon*Con, btw?

[identity profile] gateslacker.livejournal.com 2011-06-15 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)

I know! We were, like, we haven't seen one another in over a year and we were still on the same wavelength.

As for D*C, my employers are aware if that weekend but I still need to buy my ticket. I always wait till practically the last minute.

You didn't have a gps app on your phone? I just use that.

I'm coming up for air now, all I have left for my class is a final Friday night, and that should not be very hard. Sat night chat should be ok, but I might be going out to dinner, so not sure yet.

Cool fandom link! I was wearing my Serenity shirt the other day at Kroger and the pharmacy tech said "That's my favorite show ever!"

[identity profile] gateslacker.livejournal.com 2011-06-17 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I've never researched an app. I do love this because it talks to me and if the map is really up to date, it will tell me what lane I should be in. Plus, if the next turn comes quick it will say, "do this and then do that." I have missed my exit or turn twice (by my own confusion even after being told) and it quickly recalculated alternate route/ got me back on track. What is really funny is that I can download a dalek or cylon centurion voice. Not sure I could handle that for a whole trip but it made me laugh listening to them,

it's me C

Ok I'm online. I know I wait too long. I too had a more than great time! I forgot that we too are kindred spirits with Anne of Green Gables! lol Perhaps later I will sign up for this live blog. I am always ready for Tudors! Text when we start next! xoxox

Yay! I will keep that in mind with my posting. Unless I really don't feel comfortable, I will leave it public. I am ready to watch more Tudors, too. I need to find and uninterrupted block of time and then I'll text you.
