Quickie entertainment blurb
Oct. 1st, 2007 07:59 pm That's about as quick as the time I have to spend on entertainment fun. (chants, next week there WILL be some free time, next week there will be some free time.)
SPOILERS ALL OVER THE PLACE.....YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!
Brief thoughts on:
Atlantis: alternated between on the edge of my seat and boredom, usually during Rodney's technobabble about how they were "this close" to fixing this or that. Fascinated about what Carter could bring to the new dynamic. Fascinated about the preview and where Weir is headed. I should preface that to say that Weir only ever wowed me when the ep was about her. Otherwise she was a bit wallpaper-ish and boring. So, I'm looking forward to those Wow episodes...hopefully with her and that Ogden Stiers dude. I remember loving that dynamic. Oh, and who can not like doc Kayleigh!! At least she defibrillated v-fib, (and I do believe that they actually showed v-fib on the monitor...but would have to rewatch to be sure. Bonus points for that.) which is a step in the right direction where Stargate is concerned. Loved Shepherd's teary, glassy eyes and had a bit of glassy eyes when Ronan thanked Weir on her death bed. Well played!
Bionic Woman: I loved bionic Kara Thrace but, is it me, or is she already being typecast a bit. The wild eyed, crazy troubled schtick can only go so far. I really think she would have actually made an excellent Jaime Sommers. Not too sure about the current leads acting ability but I will give it plenty of chances because, you know, it is the bionic woman. However, I have read some blurb somewhere about how this is a remake of the cheesy 70's show which, admittedly, those ch-ch-ch-bo-bo-bo-bo sounds are cheesy NOW but back then they weren't. They were COOL! And cheese is something that I would hesitate to label the old Bionic Woman as. I always thought Lindsay Wagner really portrayed the angst and isolation of her bionic condition. And cheese or no, those fembots scared the crapola out of me. I even dreamt my entire family were fembots once. Shudder!!
Torchwood: Captain Jack...hello? Need I say more? Loving it. I am loving them all, actually, and hoping it moves beyond tracking down the alien incursion of the week. Of course, lackey guy's emoting about Cyberlisa was a wee bit over the top and I had to do a bit of eye rolling when he scrunched his face up yet again but you gotta expect that sort of thing once in awhile. I really felt for poor Mr. Guppy in that episode where he saw that girl's murder under the bridge. Yeah, eventually I'll know all their names.
Dr. Who: I am becoming a huge Dr. Who fan and it's all due to David Tennant.(and episodes like Blink...Yowza. So deliciously creepy! BTW, am I the only one who thought the main girl character in that one would make an excellent companion? I thought she and the Doctor had great chemistry and they were only literally together in a scene for a few seconds.) Love the interaction lately between Captain Jack and the Doctor. Sure, I liked Chris Eccleston and hated to see him leave but now I am actually putting old Who in my Netflix queue, if I can ever figure out some sort of timeline.
Reading: I am reading what Brandon's class is reading (novel wise) so currently I am reading The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle. He reads it first and if I can keep him from spoiling me, it makes for great discussion while I am reading. He asks..."where are you now" and for someone who does not like to read, he certainly retains a great deal of information. Brandon also loves scary stuff so I went on a search for a book that I read as a child that really creeped me out. The only thing I could put in the search engine was "scary story about an evil doll named Dido" and, voila, the book's title came up, A Candle in her Room. Unfortunately, even a used version of this book is $40...that being the least dollar amount I could find on Amazon. I suppose it's a collectable of some sort. Incidentally, when I did this other book titles came up, The Silver Crown, being one of them. I'll have to buy it since I can't find the swiped from never returned to the library copy I had. Did I loan it to someone? Fortunately, it wasn't as expensive.
I am hoping to be a better f-list friend in the coming weeks. I know I have been horrid about replying and whatnot. Truly, I have barely had time toskim read the postings and only when I put off something else for a few more minutes.

As for timeline in Dr.Who I think you should probably watch them in the order of the actors who played the Dr.
I found this list.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/classic/episodeguide/
Most of what I have seen, before the current series, comes from the fourth to the eight doctor.
