gateslacker: (Merlin)

it seems that I remain in hermit mode, though I have ventured outdoors for walks. Yesterday, I had to make myself leave the house to send in my clinical logs and obtain my car tags (that expired on April 30th). Today, it will be the gray hair and the fact that my hair stylist is getting married next weekend and will be gone for three weeks. I'd have grandma hair by the time she got back! Still, I have to wonder how long my lack of "go" is going to last. It has been great being able to read and watch TV/movies without feeling excessive guilt, even though I always get a smidgeon of guilt when I decide to indulge in hobbies rather than clean my house from top to bottom as I should be doing.

Todays walk was humid since we were between storms. The lovely scent of honeysuckle, which I suspect requires a bit of humidity to reach its full potential, warred with the stench of mud that has soaked up too much river water. Blech. I cannot imagine how people could stand there and fish. I walked as much of the trail as I could, even crossing police tape to do so. It was in shambles with downed trees and debris. I suspect that it won't be repaired, though they (the town) may surprise me.

I have been indulging in all my favorite shows but seem to be drawing blanks with regard to any real discussion. I must be in reaction mode.

I spent last week's Fringe feeling enxious for the entire episode, though Peter's reunion with his real mother and their conversation about bacon, of all things, broke my heart for the both of them. Not so much for Alternate! Walter because he seems to be up to no good. It was interesting to see the differences between Alternate! Olivia and our own as they seemed to have completely different personalities. What other differences, aside from Walters experimentation on her as a child, could have created this different person?  We may never know. I know they are going to leave us with a cliffhanger and I find that I am dreading that.

SGU: A little "meh" these past two weeks but not totally bad. I found the hallucinations well played but the overall plot was rather dull. It was strange that, with the exception of Scott,  the hallucinations of the ancillary characters seemed to have more of an impact. Those where whatever his name is was being closed in were pretty creepy. I probably understood Chloe's perspective more than any of the others but my reaction was muted because her character just will not "grow" on me.

And what can I say about Merlin and The Witchfinder except that I "heart" this show!  I love these characters. Everyone had a part to play! Morgana's fear was palpable. Aredian was appropriately sinister without being over the top. Arthur keeps his cool in the face of Merlin's anger, guilt,  and grief.  Merlin and Gwen do a bit of detective work. And, then, one of the best scenes at the end where Gaius takes Uther to task. Well played by all. It isn't too much of a stretch for me to see why Merlin (may) actually be getting better ratings than SGU. Even though SGU has gone to great lengths to develop characters, a commendable endeavor, I seem to care about the Merlin characters more.
