All the shows are winding down, it seems. What happened to the days when you had almost as many offerings during the summer as you did in the fall/winter. It's not like I watch an outrageous amount of TV but I like to have something going and now that I have extra time, everything is ending. I realize that there are new shows about to start but I can't bring myself to get excited about them because either, A, they aren't shows I routinely watch such as Eureka (even though the respiratory therapist likes to call me that, knowing my penchant for sci fi) or B, they are new shows that I typically do not give a chance (a post cancellation stress disoder related to all those shows in my past that were cancelled and never had an ending).

Friday night has been a staple for years and I wonder how it is going to be when that all changes. It's not like I ever have anything better to do on a Friday night..or any other night for that matter. But, that is extremely pathetic so, moving on.

Favorite line of the evening:

Vivian: "Who is it"
Arthur: "It is destiny, my love. Destiny and chicken."

Yes, Merlin was quite the fun romp this week and a nice contrast to all the bloodshed going on on a ship called Destiny. And, oh look, there is already a Facebook recap up. *giggle*

What can I say about SGU? I think this calls for the Big No button, a nice link I came across in another LJ.  Hee. Press it. You know you want to.

Anyway

I don't know when I became so mean, but my first thought going in was, "hopefully, Chloe's gonna go."  The opening credits had barely rolled. Strangely, I'm not usually this mean when it comes to television characters, (well, real characters, too, except for a few annoying co-workers who I wish worked somewhere else) and her conversation with Eli about friendship made me have just a wee bit of a change of heart. (Only just) But I began wondering why I am so irritated by her character. Part of it is her uselessness as nothing other than the damsel in distress. I also began speculating that my irritation is related to her other function as the resident "shiny, pretty girl", the one we're supposed to be enamored with because everyone else is, the one they are all worried about while Lt. James is like "I'm fine, thanks for asking". Lt James, along with a few other characters, represents the "not so shiny, pretty girl". (even though, let's face it. Most women in a television series often fit into the first category even as we are to believe they are from the second).  Certainly, as someone who has always been in the second category it is easy to see why this could be irritating except that it usually is NOT a factor.

And to have Rush just come out and state to Young that some people are more important than other people was both good writing and bad form. Rush can be such a jerk. He's one of those types who feel that "being outspoken" gives him the right to say whatever vile thing he is thinking. I wanted to punch him too.

Why does everyone want this ship anyway? Granted, the folks from Icarus base didn't really know where they were going to end up when they escaped via the ninth chevron but, thanks to Telford, The Lucian alliance do know where they'd be going and blew up yet another planet just to get there. What, all stuff they've confiscated from the Goa'uld isn't enough to be a powerful force in the Milky Way? It worked for the Goa'uld, like, forever. I just can't figure out why the Lucian Alliance wants it so bad. While I admit powered by a star is pretty nifty, I can't yet see how Destiny would be such a great prize and worth death, destruction, and being trapped.

All those people currently on Destiny and, still, at the end of it the Lucian Alliance have the upper hand. That looks really bad for poor Colonel Young and the look on his face was pretty heartbreaking even while I railed at him for making such a mess of things. Of course, with a portion of the cast all shot up, including the one who is there to remove bullets and mop up the wounded, I can't see an easy way out of the mess. I suppose if TJ survives, and hopefully she will though Gate writers have a bad track record with their primary medical professionals, she will likely lose the baby. If so, I think I am going to be disappointed. It might have made for an interesting dynamic.

I see from the previews that Robert Knepper is going to be part of the Lucian Alliance. It looks like he is on Destiny. Surely it is one of those communication stones things unless they plan to destroy *another* planet. I think all the folks capable of accessing the ninth chevron are on Destiny so it would have to be. But where did he get the stones. Does everyone in the galaxy have a way to utilize the things? I am a bit excited about this, though, as I think he was the best villain on Heroes (and yes, better than Sylar).
