Can't let it go. Number 3 on the Sure Signs You Are Obsessed List
So, I know a few on my f-list is watching this show so I thought I would post the scene that STUPID SyFy cut because I do think it is an important character moment and relevant to the overall Arthur/Merlin friendship arc (Yes, friendship although we all know that you can't be a part of fandom and not come across *ahem* other interpretations ;-)
And I am cutting for you
Takes place between Arthur mustering Knightly support (and the hint of the Round Table...squeee) and them all riding out to face the Great Dragon. **** ETA. Oops. Actually the scene occurs after a great scene between Gaius and Merlin, which is set after the Round Table scene. Sorry for the mix up.

Thing is - for those who care - it's important because without it, Merlin is just *there* because it's his 'Destiny' to follow Arthur around. And yeah, a casual watcher would probably go 'well, of course Merlin rode out with him - duh'. And that's probably what the SyFy channel was thinking in cutting it. Obviously we know he's the Dragon Lord now, so he'll be the one to stop it.
Trouble is - doing that is *Lazy Writing*. Something the SyFy channel has some direct experience with airing, granted, but not something that you can excuse on a show like this with only 13 episodes per series! Regardless of how you see their relationship, the fact remains *they have one*. And it's pretty much one of the central relationships in the show! Therefore, not showing a pivotal moment between the two main characters is nothing but lazy, and totally inexcuseable, IMO. -

Yes, it is important, and in my 'can't let go/obsessed state' this is the second time today I've watched it just to remind myself it existed in the first place.
Hee!! Me too!

Totally agree! You'd think they would have learned by now. It's the characters, stupid. And when we talk central relationship, we aren't talking Gaius and Gwen...LOL. I think that totally hot scene (IMO) in the infirmary where Gwen is tending Arthur's wound (the hot part) while Gaius looks upon them paternally and knowingly (after the hot part) was enough to get that point across without having a whole separate scene between them. Not that I wanted it cut. Rather, it was the most logical choice if a cut had to be made.
ETA: Am also frustrated with SyFy because I'd still rather be discussing the ep itself rather than What SyFy Did. But, I can't seem to help myself...LOL. I may have to watch the whole downloaded ep pretty soon to just get over it.

And yes, that is such a sweet scene with them, isn't it? You just can't help but go 'awww'. Arthur is so cute with her.

And this episode killed me. It absolutely killed me. SO well put-together and well acted.
::sigh::
I'm not as obsessed as you, but this was a great episode to end the season. All hail Merlin, The Dragon Lord!
