I don't know why I am so beat today as work wasn't particularly horrific yesterday, even if I was in the ED. It was actually a pretty decent day , i.e. not a complete train wreck. I did have words with a lab tech who I haven't worked with very much before. He comes back to draw labs on a patient and tells me that I am supposed to put all ER labs in as "stat". Now I don't usually do this because, one, not all ER visits are emergencies and not all labs needing to be drawn are stat. Two,  putting labs in as stat causes each lab test to be printed individually as it is completed and then, once all labs are done, another,  final copy is printed. This, of course, wastes a great amount of paper which I don't like. (I'm a bit tree hugger like that) and the docs often sign off on preliminary copies instead of the final copies and that is all sorts of hassle, too.

So, I tell lab dude that I didn't put it in as stat because it didn't need to be done stat. He tells me that it doesn't matter; that it is our "policy".

And I'm thinking, "Since when?" as I have worked at this place for 12 years and this is news to me. He then proceeds to threaten to write me up. *rolls eyes*

How perfectly ridiculous.   I tell him to go right ahead and that my name is Glenda, spelled G-L-E-N-D-A, and to make sure he gets that bit right.

(Yes, Brandon does get his sarcasm from me)

What is interesting is that I didn't even become particularly angry during all of this, even though there were multiple witnesses to this little exhange. And that is what makes the whole encounter really  strange because, as someone who has always become embarrassed by public arguments or confrontations, I usually have the tendency to back down unless I become angry. I suppose I have to thank nursing for my becoming less of a pushover, yes?

Otherwise, I am pleased with myself because I am a wee bit ahead of the game with regard to assignments. (I hope I am able to continue this trend)

Because of this, I don't feel guilty about talking about The Shows. It has been the week of premieres for a few of my favorite shows and though I haven't managed to watch all of them (sorry Bones), I have been able to watch a few. I don't have time for another stream of consciousness bullet point post but I did want to post a few thoughts. I will also have to be lazy and cheat by copying and pasting parts of other LJ replies. Sorry.

I thought Chuck dragged but only a wee bit. I usually like the music they play but it was somewhat distracting in this ep. But these were my only quibbles, really. The sexting didn't bother me because it was such a Morgan thing to do and it became quite funny towards the end in the absurd, quirky way Chuck does so well. And, I love it when Morgan and Chuck do the whole spy bit, using public transportation, no less. Oh, that made me laugh. I do love how they are able to continue Chuck and Sarah's relationship without it getting boring. I thought the scene where he gives her her gun before she went on the mission was funny because it was done in such a domestic way. It was as if he was handing her her lunch or something.

I'm not sure how I feel about the Buy More Spy operation and I wondered how they were going to bring in Jeff and Lester. I can imagine them working there, oblivious or drawing completely wrong conclusions as to what is going on around them. It has the potential for comedy gold, I think. I LOVE seeing Beckman there. Hee!

And John Casey is just wonderful! <3 him!

I wish Chuck had just told his sister the truth but I understand why he didn't. Hopefully, that won't go on for very long because that particular thing is getting old. Looking forward to seeing Awesome hopefully soon.

Poor Olivia! (our Olivia) I felt so bad for her and I have mixed feelings about her "new" memories. I didn't want her to forget Peter and her life and I certainly don't want her to become a weapon for Walternate but, at the same time, her predicament made me so sad that I felt some relief when she started to believe that she was the other Olivia and that she belonged in the alternate universe. It was just so painful. At the same time, I want to see the alternate Olivia's response to being in our universe. I actually want to see her get to know the people who are important to our Olivia, thereby getting to know her alternate, and begin to doubt her mission. Yes, I love conflicted baddies who do the right thing in the end. I mean, we already have Walternate as the baddie who feels no conflict whatsoever, right? He was set to destroy his son, FCOL! But the horribly burned guy. Running around, going on missions with all that scar tissue? Puhleeze. You know I can't let that go.

Overall, I loved it better than I thought I would. I don't know why I doubt the comedy episodes, really, I always end up liking them more than I expected. I literally laughed out loud quite a few times. The scene where Merlin is stealing the gold and Arthur wakes up is certainly pratfall humor (hee, pratfall) but I giggled through the entire thing. They played that well. And I kept laughing as Gaius slapped Uther on his bald head. I didn't care for the whole flatulence scene but, having raised a boy, I know there are children out there who would LOVE it. And I am willing to overlook some of these things in favor of wider appeal. Wider appeal = more viewers = show continues (hopefully). I think I dreaded the donkey scene most of all and I was pleasantly surprised there, too. It turned out to be a great scene. Everyone was pretty terrific in this, I think. The scene where Arthur confronts Gaius was the BEST! Arthur is using his noggin and trusting in Merlin more and more and I think this scene demonstrates that. You could also tell a difference in Arthur when he went to arrest Merlin, too. Kudos to Bradley because he was able to show, without words, how Arthur just really didn't want to do it.  I was glad to see Merlin demonstrating his confidence and maturity again, even if he was the cause of the whole debacle. Plus, he is adorable when he laughs. Oh, heck, he's just adorable through and through. Gaius was pretty funny as the Goblin even if that tongue thing kind of squicked me out a bit. The scene where he confronts Morgana was great. And Gwen was just wonderful all around. More of this for her, please.

I think this show does well with the comedy eps. I think the hit and miss comes about in episodes that are dramatic with a few comedy elements. Mostly, it works but there are times where it seems a little out of place. Or, that could be me since I tend to prefer the dramatic episodes with all the angst and whatnot. At least when it comes to the rewatch factor.

I thought Bradley was FANTASTIC with the ears. HIS FAAAAAACE. And I loved that he was so upset about having to arrest Merlin. All in all I liked this episode a lot more than I thought I would!

(also, way to go you for not backing down with the lab tech. I hate confrotation myself , so I am happy when people can stand up for themselves when it's not something they normally handle well.)

I'd like to kick that lab dude in the arse. Can I? CAN I?

As for Fringe, I'm kinda hoping that Real Olivia decided the best thing to do was stop fighting the memories and play along? I DUNNO!

I got really pissed at Peter for not noticing he's smooching Fauxlivia. UNLESS HE'S PLAYING ALONG, TOO? Um, I kinda doubt that, but it would be cool.

Oh his face! Poor thing. He managed to look ridiculous and frustrated and pitiful all at the same time. You couldn't help go, "awwwwwww"

Yes, some people have natural ability but I have had to learn to stand up for myself.

Imagines you kicking lab dude in the arse. *Giggle* That I'd love to see.

You know, I hadn't really considered that but it would be a good plan, wouldn't it.

Yes, Peter certainly was able to tell the difference when he was on the other side. You'd think he could see the difference now if it was more than a matter of hair color. Playing along would be a great thing for him to do but, if I were him, I'd be freaking out thinking that Olivia is trapped on the other side.

All in all, I'm looking forward to seeing how this season plays out. I suspect I'll be on the edge of my seat for most of it.

Y'know, I think the joy of getting older is that you don't really care when people get into a snit like that. As a matter of fact, it gets amusing.

I would stick my head in and talk to the lab manager. At the least, it screws up lab dude's time as he has to spend the time discussing it with the lab manager.

As for Chuck? I'm looking forward to Buy More as a spy center. I think that has all sorts of potential.

Oh that was just Brilliant. LOL!!!

As for Fringe, I think it would be great if Olivia was just playing along. Maybe she was able to keep the other Olivia's memories without losing herself. I think that Cab Driver is going to end up helping her.

As for the Burn guy, I thought that was a bit much too. Maybe they are implying that the other side has such radically different medical technology that it allows him to go out and about like that.

Good for you with the lab guy.

I liked loved Merlin. It was great seeing Richard Wilson doing comedy again.

Bradly James got his shirt off again! That is 3 out of 3 eps. I'm keeping count :p

Well, I e-mailed my boss just in case she ended up with a write-up on her desk this morning...LOL

I am curious to see how the Buy More spy center works out as well.

How do I not have any Chuck icons?

Yes, I certainly liked the Cab driver in all of that. It would be great if she was playing along and I don't know why I didn't even consider that. I think I was just caught up in the sadness over her plight.

Merlin was hilarious and Richard Wilson was great. Yes, we spend alot of time on Arthur's chambers on this show. Help me keep count because I think Arthur became shirtless around minute 10...again.

Not that I am complaining or anything. But what about some equal opportunity bare chestedness? We haven't seen Merlin without his shirt since Episode one of series one.

After being in the hospital so much lately I have an even greater respect for those of you who work there. I know I couldn't do it. At one point my Dad was telling me about this really obnoxious old lady sharing the room with my grandmother - she was yelling and banging on things and cussing, etc. My father remarked on how well the nurses handled her (despite the fact he could hear them in the hall arguing about whose turn it was to go in). My dad said he would've thrown her out the window! It's always funny to hear him say stuff like that since he's generally so laid-back.

Anyway, I hope the write-up comes to nothing. And yay for being ahead in assignments! I got done at 10:45 tonight for my midnight deadline, so a bit ahead, perhaps?

Unfortunately I haven't watched any of the shows you mention. :-( I am watching Merlin with S on the weekends, we're up to ep 7 or 8 now.

Hee! Yes, we play the "it's your turn" game all the time. We even trade duties sometimes as in, if you see this patient, I'll do this and this and this for you" Quite the system, really.

Sometimes it doesn't work so well in the ED when I'm the only nurse. The docs always turn tail and run. Cowards!

I think what your dad said is pretty funny since I can almost hear how he probably said it which even makes it funnier coming from him.

Don't you just love those midnight deadlines. I hate to have to use them but it has come in handy a time or two when I am submitting past 11pm.

Oh, I love that you two are still watching Merlin. How lovely. It warms my little heart. Brandon isn't interested even if I do watch The Office with him.

So, you're at either "The Gates of Avalon" or "The Beginning of the End". You are at the point where I think it really picks up steam in the first series.

Yeah, the obsession isn't waning at all is it? Especially what with having new episodes and all.
