Holidays and a Meme

Happy Belated Holidays!!
I haven't posted in a bit and I am not sure why, other than the business that came with graduation and the holiday. I never even got my tree put up this year and only really felt the Christmas spirit on Christmas day! I have also picked up some extra days at work since school is out and I could always use the money, especially considering the huge amount I am going to be out over the next couple of months.
Graduation went well and I am so relieved to have that bit over with, even though there is still much to do. I haven't submitted my application for certification because APSU apparently has a wonderfully long Christmas break that is unheard of in other working sectors. It must be a school thing. Anyway, they notified me at 5pm last Wednesday that my sealed transcripts were ready and that I could pick them up the next day. Naturally, I had to work the next day and the 12 hour shift meant that, nope, I wouldn't be picking them up. Of course, Friday was the 24th and after e-mailing them of my intention to pick them up today, I learned that they won't be back till after January 2nd. Such is the complication of a December graduation. And since I have a review course in Memphis Jan 3-5, Jan 6th will be the first day I can pick them up.
What does this mean? It means that I won't be submitting my application till sometime after January 6th and I have no idea how long it takes for them to assign me a test date/testing center and it could be mid February or later before I can even test! I hadn't planned on worrying about job searching until after I pass the test (Please, oh please!) but I have had three different potentially interested parties/job offers which makes me a little more anxious about delays and whatnot. I don't want to lose out as two of these potential, possible soon to be job offers are two places I would like to work. On the positive side, it gives me more time to study, which I need to do as I haven't cracked open a book since graduation.
Add that anxiousness to the apprehensiveness I feel about my upcoming "role change" anyway and it makes for a fair amount of stress. I like being an "expert" and dread the awkwardness and uncertainty that comes with being the "novice" again.
Argh!
Ah well. I don't often meme but I rather liked this one that I nicked from
archaeologist_d . It was a fun distraction.
Your main fandom of the year?
Well, that is clearly obvious what with all my posting and squeeing about Merlin. Oh how I love this show even with all of its misses and imperfections. I have given up trying to figure out how and why I become obsessed with certain shows as it doesn’t always make sense. Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth, right?
Your favourite film watched this year?
Inception was wonderful, though it didn’t grab me in that obsessive way. I finally saw Atonement on DVD and it broke my heart. And, of course, there was the latest Harry Potter which I will watch again and again (when it comes out on DVD)
Your favourite book read this year?
This is difficult as I spent so much time with textbooks and fanfiction that reading books was sidelined. I read quite a bit in the summer but nothing stands out in a "this book was so WOW" way. I did reread the Mary Stewart Trilogy but those have always been faves of mine so not a new favorite.
Your favourite album or song to listen to this year?
Hands down, Linkin Park is my favorite band and has been for quite some time and the new album is no exception. I listen to their albums over and over. With very few exceptions such as Linkin Park and certain *cough-Merlin* soundtracks, I rarely buy whole albums. I did discover a new band, Muse, that I love, love, love.
Your favourite TV show of the year?
D’oh. Should this even be a question? Merlin. It has reached the Stargate SG-1 love proportions. We just don’t seem to get as much what with 13 episode series and whatnot. Perhaps that is why I am totally addicted to Merlin fanfic. Nah, I was addicted to SG-1 fanfic and I had 10 seasons with 20-22 episodes/season and still sought fanfic. I guess when you are obsessed, you just can’t get enough.
Your best new fandom discovery of the year? I have to agree with
archaeologist_d . (Well, and a few other answers obviously) Sherlock. This show is fantastic and I cannot wait to see more!
Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
I don’t really feel a disappointment in fandom itself anymore because, having learned through SG-1 fandom, I steer clear of any sort of controversy or actor/director/writer bashing. It just leaves a sour taste in my mouth. So, I have avoided any sort of fandom feuds, if there even are any, by keeping myself on the fringes of this fandom.
My biggest disappointment of the year as a fan was the cancellation of SGU
Your TV boyfriend of the year?
LOL, well even though I alternate between feeling all aged/maternal and letching, I’m gonna have to go with Merlin (Colin Morgan) even if I am too old. My theory is this. I hope to always be a fangirl in some way and I’m not getting any younger. May as well get over the awkward pervyness of it all now.
Your TV girlfriend of the year?
I am in love with Olivia Dunham from Fringe. She is made up of awesomeness. One of the reasons I did this meme was so I could say this.
Your biggest squee moment of the year?
Not sure I had any big squee moments that rival my SG-1 set tour or that first Gatecon convention where MS was the surprise guest. However, since none of my friends love Merlin as I do, I was inordinately pleased to meet some new friends at this year’s Dragon*Con. There was much squeeing to be had.
The most missed of your old fandoms?
Stargate SG-1. I have to admit never feeling quite the same level of adoration with Atlantis and SGU, though I enjoyed both shows. With SG-1 off the air, and no new viewing fodder for fandom love, I knew that my interest and devotion would eventually wane. It is sad because though I have been the fangirl for a great many shows in my time, this was the first time I went all out with regard to participation.
The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to?
It is hard for me to do more than one fandom at a time. Sure, I will love and discuss other shows and whatnot but my total obsessiveness will usually center around one show with participation in one fandom, including the reading of fanfic. For example, when I became obsessed with Merlin and started reading Merlin fanfic, I stopped reading SG-1 fanfic, with the exception of certain continued fanfic I had been reading. So, I am not even sure whether I am capable of more than one obsession at a time and I feel that this is related more to my personality than related to the amount of free time I have to engage in these pursuits.
