So, this is a bit of a ridiculous request for advice but, to you amazing, strong willed and strong minded peeps out there, how can I keep myself spoiler free short of taking a long hiatus from the Internet. Sure, I don't have nearly the time I would like to play on here but I do come online and read........ stuff. You all know that I am notoriously weak when it comes to spoilers for a show I am obsessed with, even when I know that spoilers always affect my enjoyment of a show.

Is there a 12 step program for this? Someone I can call when sorely tempted to partake?

Cause I really, really wanna go into Merlin S5 spoiler free, which is pretty easy when there's no news. Now so much when folks start talking about seeing filming and whatnot.

(I am almost ashamed at the total absurdity of this post. Almost.)

Not ridiculous or absurd in the least. I understand the desire to remain spoiler free for something. It is, probably 95% of the time, my preference as well. But I also understand the allure, the temptation to peek when you see those posts from friends or links to articles, fan reports, or actor interviews. It can be SO difficult not to "clicky".

One thing I have found helpful in avoiding spoilers is making notes of things I want to go back and check later. So maybe keep a notepad by your computer - or even start a word processing document or some such - that way you can jot down notes and URL addys as needed of stuff you want to read AFTER you watch the episode in all its pristine, spoiler-free glory.

Even try something something like making post-it notes to stick on your computer, with phrases of encouragement you can look to when you feel the temptation to give in to the spoiler call.

That's a fantastic idea. You always have great ideas. Yes it is hard but I've managed to not watch Sherlock in order to watch with you and [livejournal.com profile] de23 when you visit. But, there's a big difference between one month and 8-10 months, depending on availability of alternate viewing methods.

Still, I'm gonna give it a whirl.

Awww, it's so addicting! I am sorry about the 5% of giving a crap and hope that doesn't mean less glorious, amazing fic from you. Of course I understand how it goes sometime. Still, I think it can be hard, being between fandom loves. Not in the grand scheme of things, mind you, but you know what I mean.

You will always be my sister in all things H/C.
I still remember your post about that when all I could think was "what she said!!!".

I wish I'd bookmarked it. I'm stupid as well ax ridiculous.

H/C fist bump backatcha!

I am sorry about extraneous life crap. It certainly can affect these things (and understandably so) and the usual escape just won't work.

I hope that life stuff improves forthwith!

And, in the meantime, feel free to write all the stabby things.

It's pretty difficult as long as you remain on the internet. You can ask your friends to put things behind a cut (which doesn't always work because sometimes they - and me - forget). I tried to remain spoiler-free for the last episode and did but I found it didn't help the experience but that's just me.

All I can recommend is that you stay strong and don't click, no matter how much you want to.

Stay strong and don't click. That's a perfect mantra!!

I think the spoilers re the finale only made me build it up in my mind more than it ever could have lived up to. Which is why I think spoilers hurt me overall. I tend to do that. In most every show and 8/10 I expect more, even in the most enjoyable eps. Plus, I like being shocked. Like episode three. It wowed me so much cause I didn't see it coming, not to mention it was a fantastic episode. Would I have enjoyed it as much had I known. The A/M bits probably, but the emotional punch would not have been as great.

Not that the finale was totally awful, really, and I am relieved that the "cliffhanger" didn't have me on tenterhooks for 8-whatever months.

They seem to be trying to crack down on leaked photos -- that might help.

I used to be spoiler-free for a show I watched a few years ago, but it was a lot easier before Twitter. On LJ, most people put spoilers behind a cut, on message boards they tend to stay in certain threads, and on Tumblr you can use "tumblr savior" (assuming people tag their posts), but with Twitter you see them even if you try not to.

My policy now is that I don't look for spoilers, but I try not to be upset if I stumble across one accidentally. It does affect my enjoyment of an episode if I know ahead of time what is happening, but I feel that most people are pretty accommodating of that.

Yes, I need to be able to realize that I might just happen across them unintentionally and have a plan for that, too. Because I was hit or miss last series. I'd go along pretty well but when I saw something accidentally, I was like an alcoholic looking for his next drink after falling off the wagon! LOL

As a result, I was spoiled for some things and not for others which made me notice the spoiler free enjoyment factor even more.

Well, that slogan is taken so I'm gonna stick with "stay strong and don't click".

LOL.
