It's official. I am finally ready to admit that Supernatural has beat out Stargate for my favorite show of all time. Sure, I've fallen in love with shows since Gate ended but I was never really able to say that about any other show, including Merlin. Part of it is all the positive, first-time fangirl memories I have with Stargate. I didn't want any show to usurp that. Part of it is Stargate remains the most fun I have had playing in fandom. Ever. I had more time to be more involved than I do now.

But, I gotta admit that SPN is not only a great show to watch, (and watch and watch and watch) it also has me thinking about it quite a great amount of time when I'm not watching. I wanna read reviews and long-involved meta posts and look at picspam and talk about it with anyone else who is also watching.

Seriously though, I can see your point in regards to fun, first experiences and time/interest. I'm glad you've found a new love. I think it was bound to happen for a lot of reasons. I came close a couple of times with The Dead Zone and In Plain Sight, but I never really got there. I think Game of Thrones is the closest in the sense that I'm reading the books and I'm happy to chat with people in geographic proximity to myself without feeling at all embarassed about my enthusiasm. I'm very excited about Newsroom as well. Neither have inspired me to hunt up the fandom or reviews however, so maybe I've just moved beyond it all. Or I just haven't found 'the show' that pulls me back into the craziness even on a limited basis. Now actor lust is another story.... *points at icon*

I hope I don't see the day that I move beyond it all because it has brought me so much pleasure and so many friends. Of course, I realize it may be the case at some point.

And, there's no way that I could participate like I once did. What's funny is that my son was also shocked when I mentioned it to him and I think it's amusing to think that, during his formative years, he had a mom that was a total fangirl. I can still hear him teasing me in a singsong voice, "Daniel Jackson" while batting his eyes.

He said," you can't like another show as much as that one." He said "you only just started watching this one!" I said that I can already tell and, if I had the time and a new computer, I'd be vidding all over the place. Then he said, "How can you have less time" and pointing to himself; alluding to how he's grown now. I blamed my schedule but, honestly, time is speeding up, I think.

But, yeah, I think it may have messed up his whole worldview for a second there.

Heh, Brandon and my girls have that whole fangirl mom during the formative years thing in common that's for sure. My girls knew who RDA was long before Shawn could keep it in his head. And the apple hasn't fallen too far from the tree in Renee's case at least. She has an Alex O'Loughlin fan page on FB and she's made a couple of Hawaii Five-0 vids.

I do think that Gate was special not only for what it was but for who we were at the time. Just like MacGyver will always hold a certain place for me because of the challenges I faced as a teen and into young adulthood. We will never like any show in completely the same way but as I said when SGU came on, "I don't like it more, I like it differently."

At least that's how it feels at this point :)
