To be honest, I didn't really expect to enjoy The Fourth Horseman, Part two. I'm not sure why. Maybe it is that whole two parter curse, maybe it was because I couldn't bring myself to rewatch Part one. Maybe it was because I read a couple of unspoilery negative comments on LJ. Well, I was glad I was wrong. The only read quibble I had is that kid they chose to play Orlin. I just never could bring myself to really care about him and the whole time I am watching I am thinking how much better it would have been to have SPF reprise the role. Even though I know that wasn't an option, I still found myself wanting to see that. And how much more poignant would that ending scene with Sam have been, too. But, on to what I did like!
Mitchell and Daniel on the Sodan planet. I find I am really enjoying the developing relationship between Mitchell and Daniel and that it has a different dynamic than the Jack/Daniel friendship. It isn't the same (and I wouldn't want it to be) but it is just as enjoyable. Plus, Mitchell was totally cracking me up! I still see people on certain lists comparing him to Jack and stating that he just gets Jack's lines but other than that he has nothing to offer. I don't see that at all! I am beginning to see shades of what Ben Browder can bring to this character! Maybe I am biased from watching all that Farscape but I am thinking that the second half of this season will really bring Mitchell into his own as a character.
The scenes between Teal'c and Bratac were great but that scene between Teal'c and Garak on Chulac was TERRIFIC! I also didn't see Garak's sacrifice coming! It was nice to be surprised. Also nice to have that wonderful scene with Hammond and SG-1 (minus Teal'c) as well as a nice little interplay between Landry and Lam. You have to have some continuation of the backstory to get to know these new characters and it was nice to see that.
Atlantis was another well rounded episode though the payoff from the previous ep (With Shepherd and the Queen) wasn't as intense as I had hoped. McKay was great with his overdose of the enzyme. I enjoyed the battle scene with the Hive ships and the Darts. The sound they have chosen for the darts really does sound like buzzing. I am sure I have noticed this before but with all those darts, it really did reinforce the whole insect/hive thing. I loved it that Shepherd was so quick thinking that he was able to bring about not only the escape, but also the hive ships destruction of one another. I love Shepherd! (yeah, sci-fi Friday is one big love/Thunkfest for me!!!)
Okay, that really was longer than I anticipated. Now, it's off to watch Galactica and finish folding clothes and pack for the weekend. Brandon is packed so that is half the battle.
