Well, this is the first time Dish Network has ever gone out due to the weather so I guess I really can't complain. But did it have to be on sci-fi Friday!?!

Waaaaaa, I have none of them recorded.

I didn't work last night because the roads were really getting bad and the road between here and the hospital isn't really that great on a good day. It is curvy and if you go off the road, you are likely to either be in the river or rolling down a steep embankment. So, as much as I hated to do it, I called in at 4pm, to give them plenty of time to find a replacement who lived closer. Now, the thing with me is that I rarely call in. I continue to plod on many times despite the usual bouts of illness and the like. My immediate supervisor was out of town so I called the charge nurse, who didn't really have the time to handle calling a replacement. So, she did what she had to do and let the hospital administrator, who has a nursing degree I might add, handle the calls. It wasn't even two minutes after I got off the phone with Lisa that the administrator called me and told me that there was no one to cover and that I would have to come in. How she managed to discover this in less than two minutes I have no idea. I was totally amazed, especially in light of the amount of call ins they get from some of the other staff. I mean, really, there are some who call in at least once a stretch if not more! And who covers these frequent call-ins? Reliable staff such as myself and others. I told her that I would NOT be in. That I wasn't risking the life of my son and me to get there and that she knew good and well that I wasn't one to call in at the drop of the hat. She then went on and on about how the roads really weren't that bad and that I could bring Brandon with me and let him sleep in one of the sleep study rooms!?! I told her that the roads were pretty well covered from where I was sitting and they were likely to be worse at 5:30 when I was due to leave and that she could do whatever she needed to do, write me up, whatever but that I WOULD NOT be in!
Now, I understand that some locales deal with snow and ice on a regular basis. We do not. Plus, it would be different if, when I skidded off the road, I ended up in a field or something. Not gonna happen on Hwy 49. Your choices are rock wall, river, or  bluffs. Not very good odds if you ask me.

It never ceases to amaze me how the good workers get the shaft no matter where you work. Hubs has the same problems. His immediate supervisor's nose is so far up the manager's ass that Hubs asked him what color kneepads he wanted. Sheesh Good for you on sticking to your guns. Good to know you are both safe and sound. Whether you deal with ice all the time is not the point. It's not really safe for anyone to deal with.

I know what you mean! I should be aware that this is the way it is. That the corporate mind doesn't care for anything other than the bottom line and that the administrator was looking out for number one in that she sure as heck wasn't going to cover. (Not that she actually has any nursing sense whatsoever but that is a story for another day) But, yet again, I was totally flabbergasted. I guess she thought all she had to do was lean on me a bit and that I would come running. She guessed wrong...LOL

Its always the same. Those who give there best, are always expected to continue no matter what.

And I find the higher up the ladder superiors get, the more they forget the grass root stuff. Also common sense goes out of the window.

AMEN!!!!

what MAL said is precisely what I think is wrong with the company I work for. They have all these rules that maybe seem fair from their perspective but from where I am sittin they just screw everything up and create bad feelings for TPTB.

Love that icon.

Yes, and sometimes the rules don't apply to everyone. I have seen that many a time!

It is not that the rules don't apply to everyone. I think most Rules in general have a purpose. It is just the application of some rules that I have a problem with. Some are just too black and white with no room for appeal.

There is a long story here. If you want to hear about it remember to ask me in JULY.

On Friday night, my Direct TV was out too, as was my parent's and aunt's (but not my grandmother's, go figure!), so I missed BSG. The problem with this was that I had decided that afternoon to totally unhook everything out of our entertainment center, dust, clean, and then rewire everything in a tidier and more efficient manner. It took about 4 hours to do all that, and then the satellite wouldn't come on, so I spent another hour trying to figure that out when all the time the signal was just out. What bad timing!

Sorry about your work troubles. You'd think they'd give you a break, since you hardly ever ask for one.

Oh me, you have given me another cleaning idea. I really need to do that as well but I am always afraid that I will hook it back wrong and never figure it out again. What with all the dust, I am sure there is a new life form taking shape back there...LOL.

I did manage to record another showing of BSG but since I still haven't watched the one preceding that.....

Yes, but that isn't how it works it would seem. In my experience, they only seem to play hardball with the people who do show up, who don't call in, and who actually care about doing a good job. I don't intend to toot my own horn, but I know that I have a good work ethic. I know that people like to work with me because I am not lazy (at least at work..LOL), and I have observed docs calling our crew "The A Team".
