Sunday Morning

Good morning. (Of course, if this is supposed to be a journal in the traditional sense, why would I say that?) It is rainy here today but at least the snow is gone, thank goodness. Brandon had a friend over for the evening and they are now currently running around the house. We were going to church this am but overslept. I am such a slug at this time of year. I don't want to get out of the house...LOL!
So, here I am...drinking coffee. What is it about coffee that makes it so wonderful. Caffeine is caffeine but I don't get the same "atmosphere" from drinking a Soda or Tea. What is it about coffee?
Took the tree and Christmas decorations down yesterday and while they were very pretty, I am always happy to get my house back in some order. I always breathe this inward sigh of relief when everything is down and put away.
I finished watching ROTK last night..spread it out over two days. And you all thought I only watched Gate ;-) I wanted to actually start at the beginning and watch them all but I didn't have an eon available to really to do that. I do love the extended versions. It is such a beautiful movie, visually. It really makes me want to visit New Zealand. Of course, the movie is also enjoyable due to having so much testosterone goodness....Aragorn, Legolas, Eomer, Faromir. Can't forget that, can we? LOL. No, but in all seriousness, I think my two favorite characters are Sam and Eowyn. (Well, today anyway, you know how I am about favorites.) Frodo would have never made it without Sam and I just want to be Eowyn, riding into battle. When Arwen shows up after it is all over, I couldn't help but think, "great timing, you got the wrong girl, Aragorn"..LOL! Bear in mind that I have read the books but only once so events in the books and the creative license taken in the films are blurred. That and Tolkein was a wee bit wordy...LOL.
However, I did have the same reaction as I did in the theater when Sam *carries* Frodo. Puh-leeze. That was a wee bit cheesy, I thought, and I couldn't stop the eye rolling that ensued. But, that is the cynic in me I suppose. Still, The Fellowship is my fave.

Date: 2005-01-02 06:48 pm (UTC)I've never watched all the Lord of the Rings movies, only the first one in the theatre. That one was beautiful. I guess I just didn't care for the story that much. I'm all fantasyed out LOL!
Sounds like a nice weekend for you both. Good to stay in and lounge now and then. Tis spitting freezing rain here, the kids may get an extra day after all.

Date: 2005-01-02 07:07 pm (UTC)As for LOTR -- I just FINALLY got around to finishing the extended edition of TWO TOWERS (my favorite), and I have the same feelings about Aragorn and Eowyn as you do. As soon as I can get to the uncut version of ROTK, I will probably write an "extended edition" post about it. I do love to ramble on about star-crossed lovers.
And yes, that "carrying" scene in ROTK also made me roll my eyes. Peter Jackson was plucking the heartstrings a bit too violently there, imo.

Date: 2005-01-03 01:25 am (UTC)I really liked that whole love story bit between Aragorn and Arwen in the first film but in the other two it seems that Arwen spent all her time lounging about while the rest were fighting for survival. I am sure that is a rather simplistic view that trivializes what she gave up to be with him.

Date: 2005-01-02 09:16 pm (UTC)Agree with you about the Christmas decorations. Although I've enjoyed extending my "celebrating" throughout the entire Christmastide this year, I'm looking forward to getting everything put away and my house back in its regular state.
As for LOTR - while I LOVE the overall story, there's definitely lots of lovely testosterone to keep one interested. I so clearly remember thinking, when the first one came out, what a treat it was to have a film where so many of the male actors were such delightful eye candy. And Eowyn is splendid, and my heart always breaks for her on behalf of her love for Aragorn (oh, such sweet misery), but then my heart also goes all pitter-patter when dear Faramir sees her for the first time - swooning of major proportions! ; )
And I must confess to having the direct opposite reaction to you and Sonia over the whole Sam carrying Frodo sequence - that's one of my favorite parts and always brings on the tears. Of course, that's also one of my favorite parts from the book, too, so there you go. ; )

That is because you are a sweetheart my dear and, sadly, I am not.

Date: 2005-01-04 02:38 am (UTC)You know, I loved Frodo in the beginning but by the end he was making my teeth itch as well. I have as yet to figure out why, exactly.
