  • I really like this bullet point stuff. It gives you an excuse to be disjointed and tangential.
  • My son has decided to play the drums. They "tried out" on several instruments and it was recommended that he play  percussion, trumpet, trombone, or clarinet. Brandon had narrowed his choice to either trumpet or percussion and he finally decided on percussion.  As we were waiting to purchase instruments in the bandroom yesterday, he amused himself with the latest fad of cutting a polyester bookcover in half, placing them on the shoes, and sliding all over the tile floor. Seems all the kids are doing it. I said that it was just a matter of time before the practice gets outlawed. The man waiting in line next to me had only this to say, "Drums, right?" "Yep" I said.
  • I started my classes this week and it certainly is different taking them online. Everything is divided into modules and each week you cover two of them. Assignments are listed. I have kept up with the required reading. We are also supposed to post to the discussion boards based on the discussion questions listed in our modules. I don't think anyone quite knows what to do with that as of yet so we have done nothing other than introduce ourselves. In a wonderful twist of irony, a friend of mine from nursing school just so happened to be in one of the classes. There are people from all over and even though I am going through APSU, it really is this joint effort from a collection of universities. One of my intructors is from Memphis and another from ETSU. Strangely, one of the students is from Dallas. All in all this should be interesting. It seems that I will be writing a great many papers. Lovely. Nursing papers are sooooo boring. There is a presentation in one class and I am flummoxed about that. I suppose I can record with my non existent video camera. My sis has one but I am not sure hers is computer compatible. I have already been trying to think of a way to use Pinnacle to display both a power point presentation  interspersed with  video recording of me  should that be required and audio voice over. That might make it fun if I can figure all of that out and hopefully not pull my hair out in the process.
  • I have only worked out once this week so I am going to try and remedy that this evening if I can get my lazo butt in gear. I did manage to get all of my laundry done this week so I am not a complete waste.
  • Still watching Veronica Mars and Alias and enjoying both. The season one finale of VM was particularly wonderful and I am excited about season two. KyleXY ended well also though I still tend to glaze over when  teenage angsty machinations appear. Fortunately, this show seems to blend it's elements well enough so that it could appeal to a broad audience.
  • I never did really discuss Counterstrike except in my friends LJ threads. But, I enjoyed it greatly and am excited to see how it all plays out though I am bummed that we will be waiting till March. It always seems so far away at this point.  As for the cancellation, I have decided that Sci-fi had cancellation planned before the season started but wanted to capitalize on the 200 milestone before lowering the boom. The whole, "if MGM came to us for less" comment surely puts another spin on it as well.
  • I am finally caught up with Atlantis. They are having a great run of episodes I think. I didn't mind the Pegasus Galaxy replicator arc being a rehash of Unnatural Selection because there were enough differences to keep me happy. For one, Weir actually tried to "do right" by the friendly one, whatever his name was. I think it would have been more interesting for him to have been able to reach ascension. The idea that the ancients created that form also makes me wonder anew about Reese's father/creator and that civilization. Were they totally separate but parallel evolutions or could there have been some influence in that planet's past that lead to Reese and to the eventual human form replicators in the Milky Way. Interesting speculation for me so that is why I really did enjoy this episode. The Real World and Common Ground were both excellent IMHO. This has all made me speculate about characterization in Atlantis. For instance, Weir usually makes me yawn. And, actually, except for McKay and Beckett, all of the characters make me yawn unless there is a character driven arc/episode  that focusses on them such as Common Ground did with Shepherd, Progeny and Real World did with Weir, and Seteda did with Ronon. The "team" episodes on the whole don't do it for me with regards to some good character lovin'. Exactly why eludes me. I believe this is why Atlantis hasn't engaged me as well as SG1. With SG1, I love the characters whether they are an integral part of the story or aren't. I am interested in them even when the story isn't necessarily character driven or about them.
  • Edited to add: Don't know what is up with that cut but maybe lj cut doesn't like bullets...

So your on-line class is requiring a presentation? That just seems... odd. Unless they are going to give you a LOT of freedom (such as doing something via Power Point, as you mentioned) then just the logistics of such an assignment seem pretty overwhelming.

The logisitics involved in the whole thing are kindof overwhelming but I do believe that I am getting into the groove. Lots of work though. Lots and lots!!!

I thoroughly enjoyed The Real World and Common Ground. I agree that tieing the evolution on Reese's planet with the Pegasaus Galaxy version of the Replicators would have made alot of sense and i'm quite surprised that they didn't go that route.

Bit of small world syndrome with having someone familiar in your online classes. I'm very curious as to how this is going to work out for you. If I ever go back to school I think online will be the easiest for me.

It takes some getting used to but, at this moment, I think it is going to work out. I'll get back to you once the grades start coming in and the papers start coming due left and right.

Who knows? Maybe they will. I suspect that story is far from over.

My thoughts on Replicators and such.

I was thinking that since Merlin descended to work on his ancient weapon than why not anyone else. Maybe the creator of Reese was an ancient who decided that he knew what went wrong with their first attempt at creating the replicators. So when they came to the Milky Way Galaxy, he decided to tried again with Reese but in the end he failed. Reese destroyed the planet he was living on and set the replicators loose to spread like a plaque.

Your online classes sound quite interesting. It would be neat if all you learned making those vids could come in handy for your course. : ) Do you have to do the classes on a specific night? I hope you still have time for a chat every now and then. : )

Alias is starting to air here five nights a week starting on Tuesday so I might check that out. I did catch a whole ep of KYLEXY. I really liked it. I just never remember to watch it. ; )

Did you get your photo from Toronto Trek yet?

There is no specific time but I certainly have deadlines to meet regarding reading course material, responding to discussion questions, assignments, and tests.

Yes! Do Check out KyleXY and Alias!!

I did finally get my pictures. Sigh...loverly photo. It is a weird size, though, and wondering how to frame it as it is a strange size. I thought about framing that poster K got for me at Vulcan and the pic together but I would have to take them into a place that does framing and I just haven't got around to it.
