gateslacker: (fascinating)

Okay, I had waaaaay too much fun with that movie quote generator thing... However, I couldn't get the images to post to the journal so no one will see what made me laugh hysterically. I seem to have more problems formatting these journal entries than most folks. It even acts wonky when I try and insert an LJ user...

[profile] de23 you will be pleased to know that I FINALLY watched North and South (that you loaned me an eon ago). I am going to spout some heresy here and state that I liked it better than Pride and Prejudice. Of course, I will have to read the book before I make that my final answer......

Ditto on it being very similar in ways to P&P. But it has differences too, which make me love it. I think I'll always rank P&P a little higher, just because I so adore Jane Austen, but N&S is definitely up there as an all-time fav romance.

I'm in process of reading the book now. I started some months back, but the holidays put a stop to that. I must admit I find parts of it a bit of work to sludge through - Gaskell's writing style doesn't quite mesh with me the way Austen's does - but it is fun, as always, to see how the book differs from the film version and to get inside the heads of the characters.

I haven't started on the book, yet. Maybe today I will start reading it. For me, P&P was a bit of a chore to read for a little bit but, as time went on, I became more involved. Of course, that may be due to changes in my personality. I have quite a bit of difficulty when I start a novel these days. I have more difficulty losing myself than I used to.

I'm afraid you'll find N&S really slow then. I had trouble getting into it myself, but the thoughts of what was to come kept me going. It seems like the book is almost half over before she even meets Thornton. But, then I wanted to read it again, so it didn't take away from the experience too much. (Or I'm just crazy.)
