The good, the bad, and the ugly.
Aug. 15th, 2007 03:14 pmIt seems that it has been ages and ages since I last updated and, believe it or not, this is the first real free moment I have had in ages and ages. For the past month (months?) I have only had the luxury of spending very brief periods of time checking e-mail and LJ and, though I have been reading each and every entry, formulating a reply took more time and brain cells than I had at my disposal. Anyhoo, I am sure I wasn't as missed as much as I like to think I was...LOL! So, here it is. My summer, categorized.
The Good:
Swimming, swimming, swimming. Brandon and I went to the pool at least twice a week. It would have been more if not for my complete stupidity in taking a summer class. I even re learned how to dive from a springboard diving board and did so numerous times regardless of the folks looking on. Extra points for seemingly not embarrassing my child, though he may not quite be at that age where my every action is purposefully designed for his humiliation. He still actually likes me to do stuff with him!
It's football time in Tennessee. My schedule has worked out so that Brandon is able to play football for the Middle School this year. I felt that he wanted to play but new it for sure when he actually cut his hair in order to be on the team! The day of the haircut he told me he almost cried in the shower about cutting it! What a girl..LOL! I am working on a photo/vid of sorts documenting the whole process that I will be posting at some point.
Maintaining Motion. I have been wonderful with regard to exercise and working out at least three times weekly, if not more. I still cannot seem to walk four miles in an hour but I am pretty close. (3.75) Extra points for only this week being forced into the gym due to the heat.
"Just call me Ace" I managed to make an A in my Advanced Pharmacology class despite my extremely reduced study time! (But I feel guilty about it because there was no way I was able to read everything so I plan to continue reading the text.)
Amazing Grapes. Who would have thought that frozen grapes were so wonderful! If you haven't tried them, you will be shocked at just how good they are. I like them better than grapes eaten the regular old way.
Amazing Grace. It was high time I put some more time and effort into my relationship with God. It's amazing that he loves me in spite of me!
The Bad
Rollercoaster. Work seems to be a perpetual ride of will we or won't we. Several people have resigned because one can only take the uncertainty for so long. There are a few applicants and I am hopeful that my schedule won't suffer as a result now that it has reached the point where Brandon gets to play football (because my brother happens to be off the days I work and has taken an increased interest in Brandon; picks him up from practice; etc.) and I have every Sunday off.
Show me the money. Though I haven't actually calculated it, I do believe that the price of gas is the reason I never seem to have any extra cash...LOL. I keep wondering where it seems to all be going lately and, though I have been out some additional expenses of late, money for gas seems to be the only conclusion I have for my rapidly dwindling bank acct. on payday.
The Ugly
Is it hot in here? The summer of low humidity, which I have enjoyed despite it's droughty reason, has given way to some of the hottest temps I have seen in a loooong time. In fact, I think I was a child the last time temps got over 100, consistently. It's pretty bad when the temp outside is 93 and someone remarks that a "cold front" came through. I think the high today is supposed to be 103! Most of the new bushes I planted are dead. Oh, and the water tastes like crap. Something about algea and the water being low.
Broke. It seems that there's this sensor in your car key that relates to a sensor unit in your steering column. It's an anti-theft thing I wouldn't understand. Well, my unit in my steering column decided to go out and the key(s) just would not turn. Naturally, this happened when my car was not at home and naturally it needed to be towed. (cha ching, cha ching..for the repair shop!)
And more broke. My washing machine washes no more. I have frequented the laundromat the past two weeks. Since the thing is over 10 years old and I have already put forth repair costs once, it is time for a new one. I am hopeful the dryer doesn't follow suit. (and that the rule of three's is taking a holiday though Brandon says that his little TV doesn't have sound. I can't complain as it is a TV/VCR combo that I got for him on his third birthday, mainly for me because I was really, really tired of watching The Lion King over and over and over. Perhaps he'll get a new one for his thirteenth birthday in October. OH MY!! *squeak* He is really going to be a teenager, isn't he???)
Playing Hookey. Unintentionally. It would appear that my repair woes necessitate me sitting this semester out. Hopefully, finances will be on the up and up come spring!
And there you have it. More good than bad, really, and isn't that the way it usually is, even if we aren't always as attentive to the good as we are to the bad?
I am really excited about Dragoncon coming up in the next few weeks, though you cannot tell it from the amount of thought and planning I have put into it. Since I may be having a bit more free time, I can start thinking about it. Today as I was working out, I started thinking about vidding again, a sure sign that I am freeing up some time as well as looking forward to some fandom fun!

Poor Brandon must not be meant to play football. They haven't even made it to the field, yet, because of the heat and have been practicing in the gym. He fell when he was running, hit the wall with his arm, and broke his left radius. Snapped it right through! I don't know who I feel more sorry for. Brandon or my brother, who I just haven't had the heart to tell, yet.
