Checking in.
Mar. 19th, 2008 07:34 pm There's been loads going on but I haven't had much time to sort it all out for posting so I'll just hit the highlights. I have been feeling rather crappy for the past two weeks that I blame partially on not taking synthroid and partially on some sort of sinus/upper respiratory infection type thing. All I know is that I have had a nagging headache and intermittent nausea for almost two weeks. Neither were enough to put me out of commission but they are enough to add to my overall feeling of crapathy (feeling both crappy and apathetic) Though both are still there, the symptoms are not as wearing. I started taking my synthroid again and I hope that will also help my overall energy, eventually. I won't ever stop it again, especially since the whole thing was an exercise in futility. My thyroid gland wasn't really functional enough and only a hint of any nuclear uptake was evident after all was said and done, which was more frustrating than it was surprising. The official report isn't back yet but, unofficially, you couldn't see enough to get a diagnostic impression.
In any case, I really haven't had time to lounge around on the couch or sleep, which is all I have wanted to do. The remodeling has begun! My yard is a mess, made even more of a disaster by my dog, who must be way younger than I originally thought, as she has somehow discovered every scrap of paper and whatnot and chewed it all to shreds. I wonder where she finds all this stuff, though the latest casualty seems to be the box that held the construction guy's nails. I know she isn't finding all this stuff to shred outside of the yard because the fence works and she maintains the boundaries. What a mess! The weather was nasty today and I didn't have time to pick up the yard. Tomorrow is supposed to be nice but I will be at work from sun up to sun down. I hope the neighbors can take it that long or overlook it because of the construction...LOL
I also didn't have time to work on the yard today because I had to go buy a car. They did decide to total my other car after replacing one of the doors only to realize that it wouldn't close because the frame had been damaged after all. I discovered this in a rather convoluted way. I passed the autobody and saw that one of the doors was open. I thought I would check it out and became rather incensed when I realized that the door must have been open throughout our recent snowstorm. (as there was six inches of snow in the floorboard) All I was thinking was that come summer, there would be this horrendous mildew smell. When I called that following Monday, the auto body people told me the news. Just when the insurance adjustor was planning to inform me, I have no idea. Even worse, I had some of my photobooks in the car at the time of the snow which are now ruined. At least they are online and I don't have to remake them!
So, the insurance company gave me a sum that is well within the Blue book value for my car, after a week of me trying to get a replacement title because the stupid bank never sent a release on the lein. (It amazes me that I somehow have every book to every appliance, camera, dvd, and, believe it or not, cassette tape player, that I have ever owned but I could not find the title to a car I paid off more than two years ago!) But, a week driving a rental car more than demonstrated to me that I cannot go back to a small car. I felt vulnerable and exposed and carsick, even while driving! So, I did my research and tried to incorporate decent gas mileage with safety in a crossover vehicle that I could buy without totally breaking the bank and ended up with a used Toyota Rav 4. .I did online research out the wazoo; so much so that I knew exactly where to go and exactly what I would get and what was available at every dealer within a 75 mile radius. I had to compromise on some of the perks that I once had such as a sun roof and a 6CD changer. I gained some newer safety features (airbags everywhere!) None of it changes the fact that I have a car payment. Again. Poor sales guy. He must have thought me the most informed and unenthused car buyer ever! I even haggled a bit even though I knew the vehicle was already listed below blue book value! Really, the only thing I did have left to do was test drive which in the end is really always a waste of time as no one has the time to take a "true" test drive in the form of a three hour trip. I do love how it drives even though I hate having needed to buy it.

Date: 2008-03-20 04:11 pm (UTC)Remodeling - so frustrating and taxing when you have to live in the midst of it. Keep reminding yourself of the light at the end of the tunnel - the finished product. Looking forward to pics of that. ; )
I know you regret having to get the new vehicle - or at least taking on the payment. But go you for being all prepared for the dealer.
Feel better soon!
