"The Sun is a flower, but only so an hour"

It is so wonderful to wake up with nothing to do! The sun did try to peek through yesterday and, for once it did not rain. However, today seems back to dreary and it did rain in the night. At this rate my yard will need bushhogging. I need to clean my house, too, but you see where I am. I am working the much needed break thing to the max, I tell ya! LOL. Over the weekend, I read Twilight, mainly because my sister-in-law gushed over the series. It was a good read, though it slowed down in the middle for me due to the many pages of the "I'm dangerous for you but I can't stay away" and "I don't care if you're dangerous for me" blather. We get it already. Doomed love and all that jazz. Can we move on, now? I don't know, Perhaps as I have grown older, I have become more of an inpatient reader who cannot tolerate a prolonged buildup. Maybe it is the instant gratification mentality that has taken over. Anyone out there who has read this series, what do you think?
After reading the story, and putting its movie on my Netflix queue, I opted for watching Daniel Deronda which put me in a mood for period drama, though I had nothing else to watch. Ashamedly, I have never read this one and the Gwendolen character completely annoyed me throughout. So why was I strangely disappointed when Daniel chose Mirah, even though she had the better character of the two women. I really think that this might be due to the inadequate development of the Mirah character in this series. Or, maybe I felt for Gwendolen because she did mature and she seemed so hopeful that she and Daniel would be together. I don't know. See what happens when a not particularly shippy person encounters a particularly shippy plot, all of the sociopolitical/religious undercurrents aside. I just make a mess of it...LOL!
The Twilight movie should come in today. Netflix has been making money on me the past few months. It's time for me to make up for that.
I have been about on facebook but the format hasn't grown on me, overmuch, though it seems that more people I know use this site.

Date: 2009-05-06 10:25 pm (UTC)I'm afraid D is the only one I know who has actually read all the books but you already know her feelings. I do think we grow a bit beyond the angst to some extent. *says the queen of angst* The slow build up seems to irk me more in print than on tv/movies. Do I sound sincere here?
I'm afraid I don't know anything about Daniel Deronda.

Date: 2009-05-07 12:07 am (UTC)BTW, Brandon was really excited the other day when we got D's card. He couldn't wait to show me when I got home from work. I did LOL at the "By the way, I'm not adopted" comment. I'm not sure where that particular taunt came from but it makes me laugh for some reason.

Date: 2009-05-07 11:45 am (UTC)Oh I'm so glad D's card made you both smile. She came downstairs Wednesday night with it all made out and ready to send. I didn't know what she wrote in it. I thank you again for a wonderful time. I doubt either of us will forget the experience for a long time to come!
