gateslacker: (vomitization)

I really wanted to do a quick Dragon*Con highlight post but my mood was waylaid by idiots. (And I still need to upload my relatively few pics) Seriously, they're everywhere. (The idiots, not the pics)

The fine folks who take care of contracts and paperwork and what have you for my Master's program have their collective heads firmly lodged in their collective rectal vaults. Actually, I think it may be all down to one person who, by the way, did not return my call today. I submitted all of the paperwork on my end during the first week of class and, hello, I just used this site last semester. (ding!ding!ding!). Here I am, though, still awaiting the go ahead to begin my practicum. Seriously, I have to fit in 240 hours over the next thirteen....twelve weeks and I was already going to have to, somehow, "find" another 8 hours in my schedule. *thwacks them*. I mean, really, I can't submit the paperwork till class actually starts though I had it already completed. This is what these people supposedly do for a living. You'd think they would have their ducks in a row.

I suppose that will give me some time tomorrow to study and start working on the multitude of papers. Maybe a bright side though I am way too lazy to consider that a boon at the moment. (Work is work, after all!)

At least work (the paying kind) was relatively decent today. I got to work with my fave doc in the ED and we were steady rather than slammed. I didn't want to walk into a train wreck right off vacation! Seriously, though, 12 hour shifts are beginning to get really loooooong.

Yesterday, I did manage to get Brandon clothed for the next few months and you will be pleased to know that he won't be wearing shorts and flip flops in December. I also did a frivolous thing by buying a Blu-ray player. (I think the price was really decent) I have been wanting one for ages and ages but I could have at least waited a few weeks past the fun and  frivolity of D*C. My early Christmas present to me, perhaps? It's pretty cool in that it has built-in wireless and I can watch Netflix, you tube, etc on it. I'm pretty cool in that I (finally)  figured out how to tie it all in to my other DVD receiver/surround sound in a way that allows me to have everything going through the surround sound. (Cue epic music!). Sometimes I get a little overwhelmed by all of the cables behind my TV!

*HUGS YOU* Cables are what I do for a living - Home Theater company and all. ;-) But the rest - utter gack. I really hate people in administrative places who can't get their proverbial shite together! Like the SECRETARY who emailed a friend of mine the day before school started to say "you haven't been cleared". Meaning she wasn't hired. What it *should* have said was *you haven't been cleared, yet." SLIGHT DIFFERENCE, YEAH!?
Good on you for not having a Beach Blanket Bingo December. ;-) And yes, I am obviously old enough to know of that movie, at least. :D

LOL! A resource I didn't even know I had. I'll bet you hate it when everyone inundates you with questions. Reminds me of that T-shirt I saw at D*C that said, "No, I will not fix your computer."

Hee! I am sure my son really appreciates it. And I'm old enough, too, but can't remember if I ever saw it.

Hee! Thankfully I don't get that much at all. And I'm happy to volunteer information. It's because I'm a chick, I think, sadly. I go to industry events, especially training, and I'm like usually one of only a handful of girls. In the general stuff there's women, but many of them are merely support people and they don't actually know a whole lot about it. I actually know how to do some stuff. ;-)

But yeah, I totally love that shirt. :D Though I've always wanted to get the one that says "I ♥ Geeks".

The cables behind my television are the bane of my existence. Is there any way to make them look pretty?! No!

So yeah... whine away darling woman. Stupid people are everywhere. Uh-huh... *nods in agreement*

Hee... it was so great to meet you at Dragon*Con and I really need to do my own summation as well. :D

There really isn't. I've had them all organized in the past but that has gone by the wayside.

I am hoping to keep my whining at a minimum but I suspect I will fail in this venture.

It was great to meet you, too! And to answer another question. Yes, I did get in to see the fabulous Ben Browder but they didn't start moving the line till 4:30 so the panel was cut a bit short. He's lovely! (Happy sigh)

I hope it all gets cleared up soon. Maybe you'll just have to take a day off real work for a few weeks. Just don't kill yourself!

Yay for blu-ray! I started doing our Sept bills last night and got so depressed I had to quit after paying the imminent ones. Then I got my bill from Trevecca today (due immediately!). Don't know when we'll ever move up from our 40" not-flat-panel tv. Sigh.

The good news is I got my background check done really easily, although I see on the bill that they charged me $50 for it even though I paid the company $50 directly. Hrm.

Yes, I am thinking about e-mailing my co-worker who makes the schedule to have her take a day out of the rotation each pay period but I am hesitant to do that. I don't want to "lose" that day forever. Plus, I'm not completely sure just how bad that would affect the budget over the course of the semester.

There are times that other prn staff need some days. Next week happens to be one of them and I already have someone working for me on Monday. But that may not be an option every time.

I don't know. I might e-mail Mary and see what she thinks.

Yes, managing the bills sucketh muchly. ((((hugs))))

Oh, the woes of returning to real life after the fun of a con, made all the worse because some folks in the real life department SO do not have their act together. But hang in there. You are resourceful and made of awesome - as proved by your getting all your home tech hooked up together - so I'm sure you will find a way to get things worked out. Goodness knows, the cables behind my TV are a vast mystery to me. It's all I can do to recall which buttons on which remote are required to make all the cool stuff function properly. ;)

"their collective rectal vaults." I love how you put that. LOL!!!!!!!

The cables for my computer stuff are a bloody mess. Thankfully they are hiden until my desk.

Yesterday The boss asked me to download and fiqure out a new application. I took a look at it but my post con brain just couldn't concentrate on it. Thankfully we are not meeting about it until next Wednesday. I should be sufficiently recovered by Monday for my brain to actually work again. ; )
