It has been an eventful day. I had to be up early to head to the university in order to take the HESI exam, also known as the exam that should tell me how much I suck. I didn't have much time to study, it has been so busy, but I did yesterday when I learned that it counts for 20% of my grade. Oops. Maybe I should have considered that sooner, yeah? I just thought it was a prep thing. So, I did try to work on my review book yesterday after clinical and on Sunday after church while I was waiting for Brandon to get off work. Yeah, too little to late.

So, anyway, I get to the university and realize another advantage to online classes when I have to park, like, 12 miles away. And it is cold! Good thing I wore the thermals today. The testing took place in what used to be the nursing building. 12 years is along time, though, and I had to drag through the recesses of memory to remember where the bathroom is. I did notice the bathroom had been renovated....LOL

That taken care of, I headed the testing area. Wow, laptops. Ain't technology grand? I had no idea of what to expect and it is a good thing that I rarely suffer from test anxiety. The test is 110 questions and I spend the next 77 minutes thinking, "OMG"and "what the heck" about every other question before reaching that oh who gives a flying flip it can't be helped now point around question 92.

Then it gives me a score and a weighted score, because some questions are worth more than others because of level of difficulty. Apparently my score is pretty good at 1030 (they expect better than 800 according to the disclaimer) and my weighted score is 93%. What that means for certification I have no idea but I am encouraged by the fact that the test came from the ANCC, the same certifying body that I have chosen for certification. I still don't know how I managed it!

They give you a detailed report that I would have liked to print out and take with me but their printer wasn't working, apparently. How unhelpful.

So, I went to see my advisor because I have all these forms that have to be filled out for my certification application. Seriously, I'm surprised they don't need a vial of my blood or a mapping if my genetic code. My advisor points me in the right direction and tells me that, oh yeah, she sent me an e-mail because she thinks my paper is worthy of being published and she has forwarded it on to a committee/ colleague. *blinks* Seriously?!? That sounds pretty cool but I won't hold my breath until another person reads it, a second opinion as it were. They may think it's total crap.

Then it was off to request sealed transcripts (again for the application to sit for certification) and then off to the bookstore to purchase my hood and gold cord. LOL? Who knows if I will figure out how to wear all of this when the time comes.

It is finally dawning on me that I am almost there. Tomorrow is my last day of clinicals and all that is left is submission of clinical logs and evaluation forms.

WOW!!!!!

Woohoo! That's really exciting. And believe me if you don't know where everything goes, they have people to help you out or did when I graduated. :D

Yes, I am sure the hood thing isn't as complicated as I am making it. I'm glad there will be people on hand to "fix" me when I put it on wrong.

Thank you, my dear.

Well I sure was. Surprised, that is. It was a little surreal to tell the truth. I keep thinking it was an error and I am going to get an e-mail stating as much.

You've come so far. Sounds like you did quite well from this layperson's perspective. I hope everything goes smoothly from here on out. And way cool about possibly getting published!

It does seem that I have been doing this forever. Sheesh, what am I going to complain about when I am done?

And way cool about possibly getting published!

Yeah, I probs shouldn't have even mentioned that because of the likelihood that nothing will come of it. Still, it was a nice thing for her to say, anyway.

Way to go! I don't think it takes much knowledge of the process to figure out that 93% means you're going to do pretty damn well on your exam.

You are almost THERE, baybee!

December 17th at 2pm. I did salvage a few invitations from Sammie and then didn't find the time to send them out. Now that I have time it is a bit too late to send them.
