Stupid Sci-Fi poopeyheads!!!
Aug. 21st, 2006 06:10 pmHoly Hannah, could there have been crappier timing! One minute I am watching the 200th episode with all the excitement that accompanies that special occasion and also having a great time with Gate, as usual. The next moment I learn that it has been cancelled! Do what? What a slap in the face to all of those folks who work hard to make the show, who I read learned about all of this on the eve of 200's airing, and to all of us who eagerly await its airing from week to week!!! But, I suppose that is just sci-fi channel's standard operating procedure. It's almost as though that once they made that "longest US sci fi show" distinction it was time to kick it to the curb ASAP! I have been a science fiction fan for my whole life but I have just about had it with the Sci-fi channel. Shame, too, since I happen to like Atlantis, BSG, and may eventually like Eureka. But, by golly, we have to keep that sci-fi staple, wrestling, going so I am sure something just had to go! Question is, am I going to keep watching what is left of the good sci-fi offerings, few though they may be? Right now, with a backlog of Atlantis eps that I still haven't watched, I am not so sure.
Of course I have always realized that the show couldn't go on forever and ever amen. But to end it without ending it will be a travesty. Plus, I feel really bad for CB and BB. Ten years or not, I have been in the process of just getting to know them and I like what I see. During the episode "200" when Martin Lloyd says, "the movie's back on!" I was wondering if this was a way of telling the fans something we didn't know. But, really, how could that be since it was filmed before this bombshell announcement (and yes, even though I was expecting it at some point, this announcement was really a bombshell). I can only hope that Martin was being prophetic. I feel the same way I did when TNG was cancelled. I would rather see a show on a weekly basis than wait years and years for a feature or even a television film but, naturally, I will take what I can get!
In any case, Gate has been an enjoyable part of my life for quite some time. Although I know it's only a TV show, I am seriously bummed. :(

Date: 2006-08-22 01:24 am (UTC)I *would* have written a letter when Farscape was cancelled, and part of me is sort of sad that I missed the opportunity to do so. But that's my benchmark: I try to imagine how upset I would have been if I had been watching FS then and found out about the cancellation--and really, nothing else comes close to that.
I'm certainly sad and a bit angry about SG-1, but I don't feel like it's necessarily being cut off before its time or anything like that, much as I am still enjoying it. Farscape, on the other hand? Totally thwarted before its time, and even though PK Wars was awesome and all that, I still have deep sadness about the lack of a season 5.

Date: 2006-08-22 01:34 am (UTC)I believe I am more incensed about the timing. Talk about kicking someone when they are up. This am I watched 200 for the second time. I go to bed. I wake up in the afternoon to find that Gate has been cancelled. It just seems a cruel and crass time to tell everyone.
Although I will really miss seeing it every week, as long as they actually end it, tie up loose ends, etc. I will accept that it has ended. If they leave us hanging ala Farscape, I am going to be one irritated fan.

Date: 2006-08-22 01:42 am (UTC)And I completely agree about the appalling way it was handled--bad enough for the fans to hear about this right after all the adulations, but apparently the cast and crew found out right before the party for the airing of the 200th ep. That is just Bad and Wrong!!!
And of course I'm going crazy with stress and stuff at the moment, myself, and am just not in a place, emotionally and psychologically, where I can handle stuff. Grrr.

(((((Isabelle))))))
Yes, TV and other entertainment forms are supposed to be our way to unwind and destress, not bum us out even more.
