Stupid Sci-Fi poopeyheads!!!
Aug. 21st, 2006 06:10 pmHoly Hannah, could there have been crappier timing! One minute I am watching the 200th episode with all the excitement that accompanies that special occasion and also having a great time with Gate, as usual. The next moment I learn that it has been cancelled! Do what? What a slap in the face to all of those folks who work hard to make the show, who I read learned about all of this on the eve of 200's airing, and to all of us who eagerly await its airing from week to week!!! But, I suppose that is just sci-fi channel's standard operating procedure. It's almost as though that once they made that "longest US sci fi show" distinction it was time to kick it to the curb ASAP! I have been a science fiction fan for my whole life but I have just about had it with the Sci-fi channel. Shame, too, since I happen to like Atlantis, BSG, and may eventually like Eureka. But, by golly, we have to keep that sci-fi staple, wrestling, going so I am sure something just had to go! Question is, am I going to keep watching what is left of the good sci-fi offerings, few though they may be? Right now, with a backlog of Atlantis eps that I still haven't watched, I am not so sure.
Of course I have always realized that the show couldn't go on forever and ever amen. But to end it without ending it will be a travesty. Plus, I feel really bad for CB and BB. Ten years or not, I have been in the process of just getting to know them and I like what I see. During the episode "200" when Martin Lloyd says, "the movie's back on!" I was wondering if this was a way of telling the fans something we didn't know. But, really, how could that be since it was filmed before this bombshell announcement (and yes, even though I was expecting it at some point, this announcement was really a bombshell). I can only hope that Martin was being prophetic. I feel the same way I did when TNG was cancelled. I would rather see a show on a weekly basis than wait years and years for a feature or even a television film but, naturally, I will take what I can get!
In any case, Gate has been an enjoyable part of my life for quite some time. Although I know it's only a TV show, I am seriously bummed. :(

Even though I'm not head over heels for BB, I've so appreciated how he's thrown himself into this role (doing so much more than, say, Joe Flanigan has done lately with his established -- and renewed! -- role).
I'm drinking wine to dull the pain. Thank goodness there's Life on Mars tonight to distract me.

Life on Mars
Okay, what's that about? It seems that I am going to be in the market to find a bunch of really good shows to ease the pain of Stargate's imminent demise. But, I am not due a Netflix till tomorrow so must wait for more of Veronica and Sydney.
On a completely unrelated note, You and De's gushing over North and South has prompted me to check it out from the library. They actually had it, can you believe it? Only problem is that it is an older, musty book and I sneezed three or four times (in the library no less where the sound goes on and on) while simply turning the pages. I believe I'll have to take some allergy medicine before I begin. ;)
