I'm patting myself on the back, here, to say that I am still managing to avoid the spoilery (for two shows, now).

Go me.

This week, I took a brief break, teevee wise, from my unending love for SPN and fulfilled a promise to my friend, [livejournal.com profile] scarym1, to give White Collar a go (cause I'm just cool like that and, plus, it went Netflix streaming)

I must say that I'm enjoying it very well thus far.

Is it very pathetic that this is pretty much the only thing new with me? How boring can one person actually be?!? Even I am pretty much over me.

Ah well, how about I share a bit of lovely and a song or two. How about that? (FYI this is an official vid...not a fanvid.) Now, I'm sure you all know why I watched this vid in the first place. I've never even heard of this band before now but I think the song is pretty cool. It certainly won't be the first time I've discovered new music because I'm a fangirl and it won't be the last.

And yet another song I am loving from the new Linkin Park "album"....

My D*C ticket has been purchased and has already arrived. Then, today, I hear that Richard Dean Anderson has been added to the guest list! (thanks to a heads up from [livejournal.com profile] dm_lunsford)

Uh. Wow! That just tickles my little Stargate lovin' heart. (after all it is thefandom that started me down the fangirl road.)

I suspect I may have to rescind my no pictures, no autographs, no waiting in lines that wrap around the block, and no waiting in line for ages and ages thing I've had going the past few years.

I am loving this song. Linkin Park, you keep doing it for me!! I keep waiting to be over you but it hasn't happened so far....

I'd love to see a SPN vid to this. I even left a prompt in some community. Somewhere. What about you, [livejournal.com profile] dragonfly_sg1. Your vidding muse up for it?

(If only I had all the eps ripped/downloaded, time, a computer with enough RAM to handle it, updated versions of my vid editing program or, even better, Sony Vegas. Sigh)

gateslacker: (OMGteryl)

LOL, my 71 mother got a new phone and she is texting me like a mad woman. She's never had texting before. What a hoot!

Whew, the workout has been a killing me these past several days. I've been trying but I'm still not acclimatized from my vacation. Funny how 6 miles on PEI felt like nothing and 3 miles at Fort Donelson liked ta killed me today. I just could not keep the interval going beyond 30 minutes. I was soaked and wanted to fall down and puke on all the hills, though not necessarily in that order. I'll get used to it again. Of course, it was still 92 out at 5pm but I've worked out in worse heat. I wonder how long it is going to take to readjust.

I tried to be good on vacation but the eating plan lasted, oh, about a day. But I still ended up losing. Maybe it was all that walking and fitting in exercise on top of that.

I've readjusted to work without too much despair and distress. I only had 3 giant piles o' charts waiting on me but I'm almost caught up. (well, as caught up as I can ever be at any given time)

Yesterday, I really wanted to be at comic con. My f-list was inundated with SPN and I was all a flutter by The Pretty and completely mesmerized by Mr. Don'thatemebecauseI'mbeautiful. Seriously, the JaredHair pretty much had it going on and slayed all the competition. I could not stop looking at it. (I'd link but I'm on the iPad where I still have probs doing such things. Plus, I can never keep up with the "rules" regarding linking and I have no desire to be involved in a fandom brouhaha. )

But where was all the Merlin stuff? Must still be buried in my f-list somewhere. I'll never get caught up on the vids. (which is probably a good thing because they'll be all spoilery and I'm feeling a bit weak.)

OMG, my mom is still texting me!! Hilarious!!

[livejournal.com profile] scarym1I miss vacation, too, but you'll be pleased to know that my house was still standing when I returned home. It wasn't perfect, but way, way better than I expected what with all the teenagers who traipsed through here while I was gone. I did find boys boxers and dirty socks in the strangest places. Teenage boys. Whaddaya do? I reckon there's a partial wardrobe over here for every one of them.

Wow, school starts August 1. My son will be a senior! When did that happen!?!

It may be slow going but I do hope to post reports and pictures about the month of various vacations. I'll probably have to split it up by theme for the sake of variably interested.

It has been so busy around here these past few weeks that I feel the need to hole up in the house today, even if the sun and water does beckon.

But, there's laundry. And dishes. And plans for a busy day tomorrow.

Vacation time is nearly upon me and I'm getting that unsettled feeling that I am, somehow, unprepared. It is true where next weekend's trip to Santa Claus, IN and Holiday World is concerned because I haven't even booked a hotel room and I am still uncertain as to how many of Brandon's friends will be going. But I have booked everything except the car park for my upcoming trip to Halifax/PEI

Wheeeeeeeeee!!!!

But, instead of doing that, I am all about my TV boyfriends, reading such things as I Hate You Jared Padalecki, which is HYSTERICAL (and potentially of interest to my married friends who also have TV boyfriends on the side). Apparently, Jared Padalecki  thought it was pretty funny, too.

I also watched Michael Shanks (one of my old TV boyfriends) new show, Saving Hope. And, because I am a total lazo, I'm going to snatch my reply to [livejournal.com profile] dm_lunsford's post about said show.

Saving Hope )

So, what to do. More Laundry? Book stuff? Or ogle TV boyfriends some more?

Ogling it is!
gateslacker: (spnsamanddeandiner)
>Gasp! Way to make me yell at the TV, show?!?

Flaily flail!!! )

gateslacker: (thinking)

Today, I decided to add some interval action to my walking routine. A work friend said jog/run 1 minute and walk 2. However, I don't want to spend my entire workout looking at my watch. I also didn't want to slack on my usual walking pace because I was gasping for breath or otherwise falling out. (I figured that would kindof defeat the purpose) I knew if I made it too hard I wouldn't be inclined to do it. (That is how I started working out in the first place...you tend to want to push yourself as you get going but doing that in the beginning is a sure fire way of finding a million excuses for why lazing about on the couch is the better option...well, at least I am that way) Anyway, since I cannot seem to work out without music, I decided to jog 60-75 seconds at the beginning of every second song. (Don't Laugh!) I ended up doing this about 8 times during my walk and managed to walk an additional 0.7 miles in the same amount of time, including the usual time to pee, refill the water bottle, and have a brief, river view moment of awesomeness.
And, of course, I had to glance around furtively to make sure that no one would see me...LOL.
I am sure it's all rather pathetic, especially when I encounter those runners with their great bodies and flouncy ponytails bouncing all over the park like it's the easiest thing in the world. (And who never have any water...I need my water, man!)
But I was secretly (well not so secretly, now) rather pleased with myself.  I hope I can keep it up and maybe do a minute every song sometime soon...LOL.

If my knees can hold out (and my ankles and my hips....)

ETA: and I have no idea why this is a different color font than what I see usually.....
gateslacker: (spnseriously?)

I love how I can buy into ghosts, angels, demons, vampires, wendigos, chupacabras, werewolves, and all manner of mythological, supernatural creatures but have difficulty with the sheer number of times those Winchester boys are thrown about, beaten up, knocked out, and otherwise injured without needing surgery, rehab, or physical therapy of some sort.

Oh, but they do give such good H/C!! All is hand waived and forgiven

I just had to share a few vids that I happened upon yesterday during my great Saturday goof off. I saw quite a few fantastic vids but I am sharing these because of the amazing creativity.

The first is a multifandom vid and I did have to LOL at the number of my own favorites encompassed within. I'm such a genre girl.

I'm sharing these next two because they are just awesome. Check them out, even if you don't watch SPN. If you are a vidder or have any interest in fanvids whatsoever, you will recognize the incredible work that went into these. The idea is to show how the show demonstrates different movie types/genres and the vidders do a fantastic job here. The creation of the movie poster graphics alone is incredible!

Supernatural: At the Movies

Supernatural: At the Movies, the Sequel.

gateslacker: (spnsamanddeandiner)
The chilly, cloudy weather this morning seems to support my hole up in the house and play online mentality. (It doesn't take much for me to cave in to the hermitude some Saturdays).

I did manage to upload some Easter pics so at least I got "something" done other than surf and drink coffee. The first pic is of Brandon and me, obviously. The next two are my adorable nieces, Bri and Abi, and then new addition, Averie

I've also been trying to work on getting caught up with everyone and have enjoyed reading everyone's "100 things" meme. Maybe I should do one entitled 100 things I wish I had time for. But, I don't have time for that..LOL.

No, what little free, fun time I have has been totally taken over by Supernatural and it's high time I start gushing (more!). I don't know if I'm just one of these people who just loves to be sucked into fictional things or if the whole avoidance of the Merlin spoilery has inadvertently pushed me toward a new fandom love interest. Because I never realized until now just how much looking at filming pictures and reading the "reports" maintained my interest between seasons (series). I don't think I've abandoned Merlin; it's just been thrown into the back seat of the Impala for the present time.

Speaking of the Impala, I miss it this season. It's totally a character. And with that I am going to segue into my Top 10 Reasons Why Supernatural is Da Bomb, Yo.

1) Sam and Dean, Dean and Sam..however you say it, the brothers Winchester are the heart of this show. I have never really known why I tend to be drawn into Bromance-y relationships even more often than I am romantic ones. When did this bulletproof kink start? The Outsiders, perhaps? (A book I read about a bazillion times and the only book my son has ever read more than once) Speaking of The Outsiders, I read, somewhere, that S.E. Hinton actually writes SPN fanfic. (I think it was a twitter response to someone else.) I don't know how true that is but it would be great fun to happen upon it sometime.

2) Best. Mytharc. Ever! I love a fantastic, interconnected mythology. For every show I have ever loved, I have had to buy in and adore the mytharc. I tend to get into it so much that I begin to resent the stand-a-lone episodes.  For this show, it would be the ghost/demon/monster of the week episodes except....

3) Monster of the week episodes do not hit reset button every single time. Even the stand-a-lone's will contain important information about the overall arc and/or will highlight an important character arc/relationship/plot point/you name it. This is a wonderful thing and is done exceptionally well. This has always been hit or miss, and my most frequent beef with teevee, even in shows that I have adored. It's like nothing is ever forgotten here. There is always a possibility that something will be explored in greater detail later. The characters do not reset themselves, either. At the moment, there are tons of things I'd like to see revisited and I think the amulet, and the fallout from Dean's trashing the amulet, given what that meant to the both of them, is at the top of the list.

4) Total balance. This show ALWAYS balances the humor, drama/angst, and the darkness rather well. Most times, it seems rather seamless in that respect.

5) Slacker! Interesting and well developed supporting characters that you love as much as the boys and villains that are NOT moustache twirling, one dimensional caricatures.

6) Homage to fandom! This show actually "gets" fandom and fandom culture. Seriously! Some of my favorite laugh out loud episodes have dealt with this aspect. I was peeing in my pants laughing during the episode where Sam and Dean end up at a Supernatural convention. (It was actually a pretty decent ghost story, too. See number 4)

7) Not taking itself too seriously. Speaking of laughter, this show can laugh at itself, too, and I haven't seen that done with such humor since Stargate SG-1

8) The Impala: A mode of transportation that actually feels like a character. It had its own episode and everything. This has happened for me before. The Stargate.  Moya (sortof..Moya actually falls into her own category in that she is actually a sentient being but still)

9) Vidder's delight. The show does it's own version of a music vid before the season finales and at the beginning of the season premieres. That totally rocks!

10) Major eye candy. Superficially speaking, of course.

And, now...my favorite lines from last night's episode:
Sam to Dean talking about his *ahem* liaison with Annie: "It was a while back. We ended up on the same case. She was stressed. And I didn't have a soul."

Bobby to himself "I can kill werewolves, fix a Pinto, and bake cornbread. I will be damned if I can't get zen!"

gateslacker: (spngoauld)

First of all, I want to wish a fantastic birthday to [livejournal.com profile] ruralstar. I hope your day has been supremely wonderful!

For the rest of the folks on my f-list, I want to wish you a Happy Easter!

I hate it when I go ages without posting because then I feel like I need to talk about everything which seems overwhelming and too much like work and who cares, right? So, I thought I'd break it down into bits.

Work:

Is going swimmingly. I love it more than I thought I would and I haven't killed anyone. (Yeah, my daily prayer for many, many years has been,  Please don't let me kill anyone. That hasn't changed and is probably responsible for my work OCD and need to triple check everything).

Health:

Is going fantastic.  I'm getting older, which means that conversations will now begin to incorporate health cares and concerns. I have been awesome about regular exercise and trying to eat healthy. I participated in a community health fair which was so much fun. After we had drawn lipid panels on scads of folks (who all hit the line really early because, you know, fasting) we were able to go to the different booths ourselves. My lipid panel was pretty great, I learned that I am not getting hard of hearing after all, and I now have positive proof that I do, indeed, have large bones. My T-score was 1.5! (Acceptable is negative 1 and above. Awesome!

Actual weight loss, however, is as difficult and slow as ever.

Brandon and the ADD experiment is underway as well. He texted me from work telling me that he could already tell a difference. We'll see. But, yowza, that stuff is expensive, even with a co-pay.

Not so good on the exasperating teenager front is Brandon having a little episode of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. (Boys are pretty much idiots). There will be consequences. However, there is good news in that I have confirmation that he tells me the truth about things.

Travel:

Whoop! 82 days till vacation and my trip to Halifax/PEI! (I can always count on [livejournal.com profile] scarym1 to keep a countdown for me!)

Teevee:

Okay, it is easy to avoid spoilers when you happen upon a new obsession. Why did it take me so long to watch Supernatural!?! It basically has ALL, and I do mean all, of my bulletproof kinks!!  I've already begun to ponder DVD purchase. This week, I took note of some laugh out loud lines, most of which came from Castiel and his delivery of said lines:

"A cupid's gone rogue."

"I think we can rule out Moses as a suspect."

"My people skills are rusty! Pardon me, but I've spent the last year as a multi-dimensional wavelength of celestial intent."

And this one from Bobby:

"They're not like the Loch Ness monster, Dean. Dragons aren't real."
gateslacker: (fangirls)

However, I think my mainlining of Supernatural might have something to do with it...LOL. Having six seasons of a show available for streaming is a great and terrible thing.

It's probably why I've been MIA for the past week or so....

So, this is a bit of a ridiculous request for advice but, to you amazing, strong willed and strong minded peeps out there, how can I keep myself spoiler free short of taking a long hiatus from the Internet. Sure, I don't have nearly the time I would like to play on here but I do come online and read........ stuff. You all know that I am notoriously weak when it comes to spoilers for a show I am obsessed with, even when I know that spoilers always affect my enjoyment of a show.

Is there a 12 step program for this? Someone I can call when sorely tempted to partake?

Cause I really, really wanna go into Merlin S5 spoiler free, which is pretty easy when there's no news. Now so much when folks start talking about seeing filming and whatnot.

(I am almost ashamed at the total absurdity of this post. Almost.)
gateslacker: (arthurglorious)
Thanks for the heads up from [livejournal.com profile] archaeologist_d I must watch period dramas more than I think I do because I recognized waaaaay more than I would have expected! And the last clip certainly made me chuckle. LOL!

ETA: Seriously. I haven't updated since 12/30/11? Wow!

Also, I wonder if there are any on my list that would recognize every single clip. I bet there are! (And without looking at the list of clips used posted with the vid).
gateslacker: (merlinfanfic)
I can't even begin to say how wonderful it has been to NOT have to work any holidays after doing so for so many, many years. Yes, I experienced major holiday preparation fail because I didn't take any time off and I am (still!) unaccustomed to working the 5 day work week and continue to experience ongoing time management fail.

What can I say? I worked the 12 hour shifts for 14 years. I was just so used to scheduling and doing things on my off days. It might take a bit more time on my part to get it together.

But, Brandon got the tree up and the lights on and I decorated it and it all worked out in the end. The lights had been in storage for two years and who knows how old they were before that and they WORKED until the day after Christmas when one strand went out.

It was so late going up that it would seem weird taking the tree down now, even if it is half lit. Plus, I would much rather spend an entire night and day reading.

And that is another lovely thing about extra days off. Extensive bouts of Guilt-Free reading! Hooray! (except that I think my astigmatism has gotten worse and everything's all blurry after a prolonged bout of reading)

So, the news of the Ender movie lead me to re-read Ender's Game. In one day. (Hence my visual problems) And I think I was left with a greater feeling of restless melancholy after this second reading than with the first. (Granted, I read it the first time when I spent several days hanging out at Vanderbilt Medical Center when Brianna had her open heart surgery so I was distracted by other things at the time). I had forgotten that Ender and the children at the Battle School were so young!  Asa Butterfield is actually too old for the part, even if I can see him as Ender. Then again, with some of the things that occur within the novel, it might be a better idea to increase the ages for the film. I mean, when I am reading, I don't actually "see" very young children, even though we are told their ages. If they had actually cast 6-12 year olds and we actually saw that on screen, I think it would be jarring or, worse, render the viewer unable to suspend disbelief. Anyway, though I am trying not to read too much about the movie (in an effort to avoid reading anything about Orson Scott Card, who, from what I gather, is very opinionated about lots of things and that just might hinder my enjoyment of the whole Ender series), I did see where Harrison Ford has signed on to play Colonel Graff!

Now, I don't know what to read next. I did receive several e-books for Christmas, one of which is Watership Down from [livejournal.com profile] de23, who, along with a few other folks, is pretty determined that I get past my "thing" with talking animals and finally read this book. Or, I could succumb to my fanfiction addiction.......
gateslacker: (merlinwhatthe.....)
Okay, I really should be wrapping presents and whatnot but, after seeing all of the festive manips and fangirly Christmas greetings, I had to try my hand at one, too.

Even if you aren't a Merlin fan, the well wishes apply to you, too cause I know you are as fangirly as I am and will appreciate the sentiment. LOL.

gateslacker: (Christmas2)

Except there's no bulleting since I'm not sure how to do this with an app and I've given up on true bullets.

Finished the Christmas shopping around midnight last night. Midnight is a really good time for Walmart shopping.

Took a break from shopping to meet my friend Flanigen! for dinner and a movie. I miss working with her because she is a fellow odd bird geek girl. She experienced quite a few paroxysms of squee with the Dark Knight trailer.

But, oh my goodness, Sherlock 2 was about the most fun I have had at a movie in ages. We laughed and laughed. I think it is better than the first one!

"Feral Pigeons" Hee!!!

And the slash goggles weren't even remotely necessary. And that is saying A LOT coming from me.

So, who needs wire cutter/wire strippers to install the new receiver/surround sound? Not this girl! Nope, I managed just fine with surgical scissors, hemostat forceps, and a size 11 scalpel!

Have I mentioned that it is an indisputable truth that I should never, ever go into Best Buy?

I can't believe the Merlin finale is tomorrow! I'm apprehensive about how it's going to go down and excited and can't believe we'll have to wait so long, especially since it'll likely be all cliffhangery. I've managed to avoid being totally spoiled by that digital spy spoilery fail. Knowing me like you do, Isn't that rather miraculous?

I know, the day isn't over.

Speaking of spoilery fail. Syfy is comprised of a bunch of idiots. If you haven't watched series four and you plan on watching on Syfy, avoid any and all previews/trailers. Seriously.

I want to wish everyone the very best and, to those who celebrate, a very Merry Christmas!

How long have I been wanting Ender's Game to be made into a movie or mini series? Uh, since I read the book many, many years ago.

Now, I read that it has been confirmed on twitter that Asa Butterfield will be playing Ender!

https://mobile.twitter.com/#!/asabfb/status/141636553050034177

Hooray! Glenda agrees!

I know that archaeologist_d and de23 have read this series. Any other Ender fans out there? I wonder who is going to play Bean? Any thoughts?

I'm pretty excited about this. (Too bad I don't have a Mordred icon for the occasion.)
